Our beloved Juanita Rivera Albert Montessori school has faced and conquered many challenges. The walls still stand to echo the sounds of learning and laughter. But there is one sound that is missing. The blessed hum of air conditioning.
With your help, we can provide that thought and comfort inducing tool. The children and teachers will benefit in concentration and control of spreading germs. And after all that we have been through, they at the very least deserve that...
In September 2017, hurricane Maria devastated our little Island of Vieques. We rejoiced after power was finally restored in January of 2018 only to have another challenge. This Montessori school, which had blessed the lives of our community and children, was going to be closed. So in March 2018 we came together to petition and made our collective voice heard. Even the children took part, making signs of what this school meant to them. With the help of many- near and far- the school was saved!
The next year was spent in projects and pride, making improvements little by little. Providing outdoor play equipment and planting trees for the future.
With bake sales, yard sales, and more we have worked to raise money. Now, as we prepare for the next school year we look to you for additional help.
In our very warm and humid environment, our children and teachers need air conditioning for better learning and health. Please give what you can and share our story. Every effort counts because sometimes it takes a very large village to raise a child in wellness. Thank you!

En septiembre de 2017, el huracán María dejó devastada a nuestra pequeña isla de Vieques. En enero de 2018, luego de alegrarnos cuando restablecieron la luz, nos enfrentamos a otro reto. Nuestra escuela Montessori, que ha bendecido las vidas de nuestros niños y nuestra comunidad, cerraría. Por esto, en marzo de 2018, unimos nuestros esfuerzos e hicimos escuchar nuestras voces. Hasta los niños se unieron preparando letreros y pancartas de lo que esta escuela significa para ellos. Con la ayuda de muchas personas, cercanas y lejanas, ¡salvamos la escuela!
Durante el año siguiente nos dedicamos a diferentes proyectos aumentando nuestro orgullo y haciendo mejoras poco a poco. Proporcionamos equipos de juego y sembramos árboles para el futuro. Hemos recaudado dinero con ventas de productos horneados y ventas de garage, entre otros. Ahora, en la espera de un nuevo año escolar, buscamos tu ayuda.
En nuestro cálido y húmedo clima, nuestros niños y maestros necesitan un aire acondicionado para mejorar la calidad de aprendizaje y la salud. Pedimos que des lo que puedas y riegues la voz y nuestra historia. Cada esfuerzo ayuda ya que a veces se necesita un pueblo grande para el bienestar de un niño. ¡Muchas gracias!
