John passed away on February 13th surrounded by love and family. He fought hard and remained positive until the very end. Thank you all for the support you have given John and Alaina over the last year. Whether it was through a personal relationship with them or the family, monetary contributions or just sending positive thoughts, you all made an impact on their life during some of their toughest times.

An update from John "Jay" Weare:
Howdy all. Laine and I, along with family, have had a few appointments in recent weeks and we didn't really want to post anything until we had the appropriate information and a game plan. So here goes-
Bad news: The immunotherapy did not work. The cancer showed continued growth and new growth, the latter of which being what our doctors did not want to see. After getting our CT images and whatnot to Boston, we had an appointment there and discussed the situation with them. We were informed, unfortunately, that we are no longer on a curative path. At this point, we are looking at time. Probably something to the tune of 6-8 months. We are starting to look at what potentially needs to be done in the next few months for us and for our family.
Good news: We are absolutely not done fighting. We are immediately getting on a treatment program that has stopped the disease previously, hoping that it will stop it again, while we look around at multiple cancer centers for clinical trials for which I am eligible, and that look promising. We will definitely keep everyone updated as to what we find. In the meantime, Alaina Weare and I are going to be doing a little traveling, visiting friends and family, and spending some much-needed time together. Both of our jobs have been amazing, as they have been since this all started, and have given us their full support. We cannot thank them enough for that. The continued support from our family and friends, just being there for us, has not waned once. And most of all, no matter what, we have a God that will not let us down regardless of the outcome. He never has and He never will. Alaina and I believe that with all our hearts. It may not be fair, and we may not understand. That, my friends, is not the point of Faith. Faith is believing even when it doesn't agree with your wants and desires. Faith is holding fast when everything seems lost. Anyone can have Faith when everything is going great. It's when life gets hard that Faith is most important. And believe me, we have Faith.
We are not done, my friends. I told you all before that I will fight as long as I possibly can, and my commitment has not changed. We will try to be in touch as best we can, and we hope to see everyone soon.

On February 27, 2017 John Weare, a healthy military veteran, was diagnosed with colon cancer – something that came out of nowhere and scared all of those close to him. Surgery was scheduled, but the mass began to grow at a rate that needed immediate attention. So on March 17th John was rushed into emergency surgery, the cancer was removed and a week later the recovery process began. John endured several rounds of chemo throughout that summer and he never once let it limit him from living his life. He worked, he fished, he hunted, he smiled - and most importantly, he kept his faith and spirit high.
After rounds of chemo and countless scans, on September 30 th John was given the news that the cancer had spread to his abdominal wall. He would have to undergo more chemo and another, more intense and intrusive surgery. To this he simply responded “let’s do it.” On January 10th , John underwent a 15 hour surgery that included a three hour hot chemo treatment. He now has a scar from his neck to his lower abdomen – a battle wound as he calls it. The Doctor is hopeful that all cancer has been removed, but recovery is harder this time around and the financial burden only continues to grow.
Although we wish we could, we cannot cure cancer, but we can help John and Alaina with the medical debt that has grown during this stressful time.
