What happened to Andi?
Our dear friend and SJC alumna Andi Adams had a dire medical emergency occur just as she was transitioning out of her job and home in Santa Fe.  Back in March, she was staying with a friend when her ascending aorta tore as she was grocery shopping.  An extremely sharp pain notified her of the necessity to rush to the emergency room without delay! Her case was so dire they sent her straight to Albuquerque's Heart Hospital. Following the repair, she suffered a stroke and other complications that necessitated her five week stay.  It is a miracle she survived, as her doctors say very few people with this condition do. Now she needs our help.

What can we do?
Months of being out of work have taken a toll on Andi's pocketbook and her spirit.  As brave, gifted, and graceful as she is, it has been incredibly difficult to find adequate employment and housing in Santa Fe.  It is tough enough to go about searching without such obstacles; her recent episode arrives on top of other difficulties and a shortage of resources. Andi had no insurance, no job, and no real home at the time of this occurance, an unfortunate reality for so many in today's economy. We can't help everyone, but when we hear of someone we know and love in need, it makes it easier to know the right thing to do.

How much does she need?
As you can imagine, five weeks in the Heart Hospital were not cheap. A partial bill adds up to over $20,000. Obviously we can't raise all of this; the monthly payment they expect her to come up with is $600! This amount on top of the costs of moving back to Santa Fe and daily expenses is more than one person can do.

She has found housing to be especially expensive in Santa Fe, no surprise. Rent for a decent place starts at $650-$750/month; first and last month's rent alone adds up to $1500, without any other expenses incurred in moving. All of her belongings live in a storage space in Ketchikan Alaska, so she has no furnishings or necessities. She needs a bed, some simple furniture, pots and pans, etc.  Fees to start utilities will add up, as will daily needs. Won't you please help?

*Please, if you can't afford to contribute at this time, would you consider asking friends in Santa Fe about potential arts and administrative positions and or housing?
*Please share and ask other friends to share. This friend has gone through so much; let's do what we can!
