Patrick and Teresa are two people who are in need of the kindness that they effortlessly show to others.
Their journey has been a hard one and with the passing of their young foster daughter in August 2018, their world has crumbled.
Patrick, Teresa and their 3 children have been running a medical-special needs foster home since 2007. They started their journey by bringing a medical and special needs teenager who required total care into their home. Realizing the need for medical-specialized foster parents, they brought into their home two other special needs babies at 1 and 3 months of age. A year later, they added a medically fragile 18month old to their unique family. This obviously pushed them in search of a bigger home to accommodate all of this large families needs.
They found the perfect house big enough for their ever-growing family and moved in April 2010. In April of 2011 during home renovations, they received devastating news. Their dream home was deemed unlivable due to previous home owners do-it yourself renovating. The family was told to move out within a week by Manitoba Hydro electrician and structural engineer. After 7 months of the family of nine living with their in-laws, the family found no other option but to purchase a house trailer and moved it onto the lot their dream house was on. Now they had two mortgages to pay for and one house that had to be torn down.
In September of 2014 their youngest foster daughter was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Their world was turned upside down as they walked this long journey with their one daughter in Winnipeg and still continued to look after their 3 children and the other 3 special needs children in their home. Their daughter went into remission, but sadly in May of this year, her cancer had returned with vengeance. On August 25, 2018 she suddenly passed away in her sleep at home with Pat and Teresa .
Losing a foster daughter they have raised since she was 1 month old has been extremely difficult. Sadly not only have they had to deal with the loss and the heartache of losing their foster daughter, they have the continued financial stress of paying for two mortgages.
