Help Frisco beat Parvo!

Donation protected
Hi everybody,

Pat and I just rescued baby Frisco, an 8 week year old puppy from Cortez Colorado at an adoption event in Arvada, CO. Baby frisco was doing well for the first 24 hours that we had him and then suddenly became lethargic, with a fast onset of vomiting and diarrhea. It progressed so fast that we quickly brought him to the vet the second day we had him, and unfortunatly found out that he had contracted an illness called Parvo virus at an unknown time. We quickly learned that Parvo is a highly contagious, non-treatable viral illness that attacks rapidly porducing cells in the intestinal tract and kills them, causing severe vomiting, lethargy, diarrhea, and pain. The only option while he hopefully fights the virus off himself, is supportive care through IV fluids to help with dehydration and electrolyte correction, pain medication, and antobiltics to prevent secondary infection and septicemia.  This all came on very suddenly and we are so happy Frisco is currently at the vet recieving the care that he needs, but unfortunatley it will be coming with high cost. We are praying that Frisco's 8lb body will fight off the illness, but he will be hospitalized untill further notice due to his immature and unvaccinated immune system at 8 weeks old. We appreciate anything you are able to give to support his cause, and we will be forever grateful.

Attached below is the estimate from the veterinary office from admission; the low end representing a day visit with blood work, medication and IV therapy up to the high end cost, representing an estimated 4 day hospital stay with continued necessary care. As pictured, the estimate is currently $793.43 to $2,231.44.

Please see the timeline below for updates on Frisco's condition and hospital stay thus far. As always, even the littlest bit helps in these sudden, unexpected situations.

Frisco's Timeline:

10/31/17, 11:30 AM: Frisco was admitted to Coal Mine Animal Hospital with a temperature of 102.0 F on admission (the high end of normal for dogs/puppies)
for blood work, fecal testing, IV hydration, IV antibiotics, electrolyte replacement, pain medication, and constant monitoring. At 12 PM, Frisco was confirmed positive for Parvo Virus and agressive, supportive treatment was initiated. Frisco stayed overnight at the vet for close monitoring and 1 to 1 care in isolation from other animals.

11/1/17, 700 AM: Recieved an update from the vet that Frisco made it through the night and was moving/started barking at 0700 ish. This is a good sign but Frisco continues to require IV hydration and nutrition replacement with fluids becasue he is still not eating or interested in food at this time. The Vet Nurse is hand feeding him with a syringe and he is taking it down, but not interested in food on his own.

11/1/17, 1100 AM: We went to visit Frico at the vet. He appeard very sleepy and ill, but we spent some time holding and cuddling with him. He continues to remain lethargic and not interested in anything but sleep at this time. The Vet made it clear that he was unable to leave untill he was eating and drinking on his own, and he was doing none of those things. They are keeping a close ey on signs of the virus getting worse, and they feel he is improving, but not fast. There are no further signs of infection or other issues at this time, so he will stay overnight for continued supportive therapy and preventative treatment.

11/1/17, 5:00 PM: Recieved a phone call update from the vet that Frisco is still lethargic and not eating on his own. We look forward to hearing from the vet in the morning for another update!

Thanks you so much for reading his story and your consideration and support. We love you all!

Sincerely,
Patrick and Kathryn Smith
