Donation protected
Hey there! I wanted to share a captivating story with you. Ever marveled at the rich, natural hues of red, pink, and purple in fabrics and dyes? Much of that magic traces back to a tiny insect: the cochineal. Nestled in Oaxaca, Mexico, the Nocheztlicalli Museum stands as a testament to this ancient artistry. https://www.facebook.com/Nocheztlicalli

This museum isn't merely a space; it's a treasure trove of culture and history, celebrating the legacy of the grana cochineal dye and the enchanting world of natural colorants. For over fifty years, the dedicated souls at Nocheztlicalli have been the guardians of this vibrant tradition. Now, they're gearing up for a transformational phase, aiming to enhance their exhibits and ensure their legacy thrives.

If this story tugs at your heartstrings and you feel moved to contribute, know that every gesture, no matter how small, makes a significant impact. Together, we can help preserve this invaluable heritage!.

Claudia and Sergio are spearheading this initiative. Your contributions will be entrusted to the capable hands of Maestra Catalina Yolanda López. More details
For over five decades, we've been fervently promoting the art, science, and cultural significance of natural dyes. Our mission has been to nurture the curiosity and passion of children and young individuals, guiding them to appreciate and safeguard our environment, thereby enhancing the quality of education. Our legacy spans 50 years, where we've trained countless women, artisans, and farmers in cultivating cacti, especially the prickly pear, and producing natural dyes. Beyond this, we've revived age-old dyeing techniques and introduced innovative uses for the grana cochineal dye. For a deeper dive into our journey, check out the documentary "Why Tiny Cactus Bugs In Red Food Dye" on BI's channel: YouTube

Operated as a non-profit, the museum thrives on its self-generated income, largely from guided tours and the sale of our exquisite natural dyes.

Our current mission is to secure funds for the museum's renovation, ensuring its legacy continues. We envision a space where children, students, and the wider public can delve into the world of the grana cochineal insect, appreciating nature's vivid colors—a cherished art form passed down by our ancestors.

We're committed to preserving this invaluable tradition and cultural artistry for future generations. To achieve this, we seek to raise USD $5,000 to:

Garden Maintenance (70%): Our historic 40-year-old nopal orchard requires rejuvenation. From pruning aged cacti to replanting fresh leaves, the funds will support efforts to expand and rejuvenate the orchard.

Documentation (30%): We aim to compensate the esteemed Maestra Catalina Yolanda for documenting both in video and written formats a comprehensive dyeing manual. This manual, enriched with the Maestra's rescued and innovative recipes, promises to be a treasure trove for enthusiasts.

We invite you to join our campaign, LET'S RESCUE COCHINEAL DYE MEXICO! Your support will not only sustain the Nocheztlicalli Museum but also honor Maestra Catalina Yolanda's indelible legacy. Together, we can ensure this beacon of nature and culture thrives, educating and inspiring countless more.
