<div>Mantengamos vivo el legado del bullerengue! (Español abajo)
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Bullerengue is a powerful Afro-Colombian tradition that has endured for centuries passing on through practice and orality from generation to generation. Through drums, chants and dance, it brings the community together in a transmutative collective celebration. Bullerengue is traditionally practised by communities that have gone through very challenging historical processes, from kidnap and slavery to violence and insecurity, becoming a symbol of resistance and resilience. It has also served historically as a tool for social change, giving people who practise it a different perspective on life and community.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>There are currently a few semilleros (seedbeds, words used for childrens’ groups) around the country which teach children bullerengue not just as an artistic practice but as a way of life: they learn to sing, dance and play, but also how to express themselves and celebrate others in their expression without judgement, they learn the meaning and importance of community and co-creation and they acquire life values that transform their lives and those of their families and people around them.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Today, we’d like to financially support two of those initiatives and the maestros behind them who put their heart and soul into educating children in their cultural practices:
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>1. TURBO
</div>
<div>Yarley Escudero (El Happy) is one of the most versatile and talented bullerengue practitioners in the region, carrier of the ancestral legacy from the Escudero family, traditional bullerengue practitioners of Turbo, Antioquia. He currently runs 12 semilleros in some of the poorest and most inaccessible parts of this town. Despite a lack of funding, he teaches bullerengue to nearly 200 children from communities at risk, offering them a much needed life alternative. He is joined in this endeavour by members of his adult bullerengue group Corazón de Tambó, such as Dely Prem and Maritza Moya -among others.

</div>
<div>Famia ri Tabalá is a music school for children founded by master drummer Lukumi (Franklin Hernandez), where they learn about the cultural richness of their territory through the drums. In a country full of oblivion and oppression, he wants to make sure that his culture will remain alive. Despite his project being unfunded, he offers his classes, every day of the week, for free.

<div><br />
</div>
<div>For this initiative, he will be joined by maestra Emelia Reyes Salgado ‘La Burgos’, daughter of the legendary Graciela Salgado (lead voice of Las Alegres Ambulancias), and wisdom-keeper of the oral traditions of bullerengue and lumbalú -the funerary ritual- in the town. She carries the legacy of this practice passed on through her family for more than three centuries.

<div><br />
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We’re asking your help to raise £3,500 which will allow the legacy of bullerengue to keep on being passed forward to the younger generations in the regions of Palenque and Turbo.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>These funds will help pay for six months of a weekly session for 20 children where they will immerse in this tradition with the help of three facilittors: involving other great practitioners from their regions in this project will serve as an example of inclusiveness and unity in the community. Meals will be provided to students in each session.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The funds will be allocated as follows:

<div><br />
</div>
<div>GRAND TOTAL: £3,500
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Even £1 can make a difference as it will allow a child to have a meal when they attend classes. In some cases, this might be the only nutritious meal they have in the day. If you have the possibility please donate to this cause! And if you're not in a position to contribute financially, helping us spread the word is also a great way of helping!

<div>ESPAÑOL:
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>1) TURBO:
</div>
<div><br />
</div>

<div><br />
</div>

<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
