Our friend and Chess Woman Grandmaster (WGM), Sarai Sanchez has COVID.
Initially, Sarai was hospitalized at Policlínica El Retiro, from March 12 to March 16. Since March 17, she was moved to Centro Médico Docente Los Altos , both are private hospitals in Venezuela. Although she has shown some improvements, she is still monitored by the doctors and the medical equipment provided by the hospital.
As most of you may know, the political and economic situation in Venezuela has had an immense impact on public hospitals; they don't have the necessary equipment or resources to properly care for COVID patients. That is why she had to be taken to private hospitals.
The cost of care at those facilities are represented in billions of bolivars (Venezuelan currency), which is why we created this GoFundMe campaign. We are directly sending payments to the hospitals in Venezuela to make sure she gets the care that she needs, and we are tracking all the expenses and receipts, which we will share shortly with all of you.
