Let’s help launch him!

Friends! Our Scott is reaching for his dreams! He has completed his certification to teach High School science and moves this month to serve in New Mexico on the Alamo Navajo Reservation. His work is deep and visionary – serving a community of 2,072, with 60% unemployment. This is the poorest Native American community in the US with a 4% high school graduation rate.

Why has Scott chosen the Alamo? He says because “he wanted to use not only his science teaching skills but all of his skills.” He will not only be teaching science in the high school but will be building the high school science program.

Why this GoFundMe?
Scott has been working at poverty level for the past 10 years, and now that it’s time to move his household items to New Mexico – well, it will cost him about $3,000, and we assure you, that is vast in his finances.

So, let’s support him in his launch into this visionary venture! Let’s raise $6,000 for him! Not only to fund his Budget truck towing car and such, but to provide him a living cushion when he arrives!
Scott, thank you for you! For your inspiration, your keen insight, your commitment and your discernment! We got your back!

Background on Scott - cool life details

Scott left home in his late teens to join the Navy. During that time, he lived in China and Thailand, where after departing the Navy, he taught English to adults. In 2014 he returned to the Virginia Peninsula to care for his mother who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

While caring for his mother in Williamsburg, he was a substitute teacher throughout Hampton Roads for many years. After his mother passed, Scott was contacted by the Peninsula Regional Education Program to teach adults on the Peninsula a range of subjects.

In addition to his extensive teaching experience, Scott brought his insight and vision to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Peninsula (UUFP). After becoming a member, he jumped in… nearly everywhere, it seems – He served as

● Chair of the Committee on Ministry,
● Chair of Communications,
● frequent presenter in the Adult Forum Discussion,
● Member of Leadership, Hospitality and Grounds.
● He taught all ages of Religious Education – elementary, middle, and high, and facilitated the Coming of Age Program for teens!
● Scott led a Fellowship Circle using skills of deep listening.
We all have learned from Scott. We wish him every good thing as he moves to share his energy and commitment with the Navajo of New Mexico. Let’s help fund his move and his settling in!

Thank you, Scott, for you, for all you bring the world. We love you!!!!
