Let's help Kurt

Donation protected
My name is Monique and I’m writing this in the hope that you might be able to help my brother during this difficult time. Kurt is extremely ill. Several years ago, he was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease and hospitalized. After that stay in the hospital, he educated himself and eventually started infusions. They helped for three years, but this past year he has been in and out of hospitals, fighting constant pain, and getting thinner and weaker. Over the last few months Kurt’s condition deteriorated dramatically, and he was hospitalized on December 23rd where he has been fighting something new every day.
Hospital beds are scarce during the pandemic, and we are so grateful that Kurt was able to be admitted. He has an amazing team of doctors and nurses, who are working tirelessly during these trying times. The problem is, Kurt can’t catch a break. It has been one crisis after another for my brother. It started with severe abdominal pain, which lead to an emergency surgery on December 28th to remove a portion of his small intestine. He has been in and out of the ICU ever since.
Kurt has been plagued by fevers, low blood pressure, bleeding requiring multiple blood transfusions, blood infections, pneumonia, then Covid-19. At that point his doctors had to put Kurt in a medically induced coma and intubate him. As if that wasn’t enough, just the other day his lung collapsed, and he was diagnosed with a rare Covid-related lung infection. The good news is Kurt was moved out of the ICU again on January 15th but needs constant monitoring and remains hospitalized. Our hope is that Kurt will be able to stay out of the ICU and start his recovery.
Anyone who knows Kurt, knows he is a humble man with a big heart. His girlfriend Karen, who has been with him for over 20 years, was at the hospital day and night, until he got Covid. Now, Kurt is alone. Karen can’t even hold his hand to comfort him. Our mother constantly sits by the phone waiting, praying for good news.
The doctors say Kurt has a long and difficult journey back to good health. He will need physical rehabilitation and will be unable to work for some time. Because of this, his bills will be mounting. If we can alleviate some of this stress, that would help. We want him to completely focus on healing.
Kurt is a highly skilled carpenter as well as a beloved figure in the New Hampshire music scene, playing lead guitar in the band “Blue Matter.” Art, who is the lead singer, immediately called to say that he and the guys would like to have a benefit for Kurt on February 4th at the Derryfield Country Club in Manchester. For details, please go to “Blue Matter Band” on their Facebook page or blue matter band website . Music is Kurt’s passion, and nothing would make us happier than hearing him play again.
Kurt has a big birthday coming up. He turns 50 at the end of January. Our biggest wish is to have Kurt healthy!
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Know that if you donate, you are helping a man who is truly deserving of some human kindness.
