Let's help Jax walk!

Jax will be 2 years old in April and he has been having a really tough time. He was born 16 weeks early when his mom Katrina was only 24 weeks pregnant. What most people dont know is that Katrina had a blood clot in her uterus when she was 20 weeks pregnant and at that point we had no idea what would happen. The hospital staff told us at 20 weeks pregnant the baby would not survive, she had to be at least 24 weeks or further along. The amount of blood she lost was unbelievable and we didn’t think Jax would be able to survive it because it was basically Jax and the blood clot fighting for room. He managed to win the fight with the blood clot but that caused Katrina to go into labor extremely early, not only did she go into full labor that could not be stopped but they had to do an emergency c-section because he was breech. They knocked her out and she woke up not even knowing what to expect. He was 1lbs 9oz. He was in the NICU at St Peters for 125 days. He had a stage 4 brain bleed, chronic lung disease, was intubated for about 100 days, had several blood transfusions, his eyes were so bad from the loss of oxygen and being intubated that they were going to transfer him to Albany Med to do a laser surgery to help and he would need glasses without a doubt. After alot of prayer, the doctors went to check his eyes one more time before scheduling the surgery and noticed they didn’t change at all, they waited a week and still not change then they looked better each week which the goal was for them not to get worse but they got better!!! When he was released from NICU he had an eye dr appointment 6 months later and now he does not even have to go back to eye dr until he is 3 years old AND HIS EYES ARE BEAUTIFUL!!! These are just some of the battles Jax has had to fight. On December 29, 2017 he had his first seizure and has been having seizures since then and has been in and out of Albany Med quite a bit. He has 3 different strains of the flu in January including RSV. Since coming home in September 2016, he has had several different therapists come to the house 4 days each week. He is not standing or walking yet, he was just fitted for braces for his legs last week and he will go thru intense therapy to try to help him stand and walk. It is imperative that Katrina, his mom spends as much time as she can following exactly what the therapists show her as there is a window of time that he has to get standing and walking or he may never walk. Katrina has missed a lot of opportunity to pick up shifts at her job because of his health in the past 2 months. She has to be able to be with him and not worry about how she will pay her rent, how she will pay her bills etc. Time is of the essence, we may not have control over the seizures but with intense therapy there is a chance he will be able to stand, walk, play, run, play sports and have a normal life. We want to help Jax have this chance!! He is truly a fighter and a miracle!! GO JAX GO!
