 Just a few days ago, Luis, Saray, and their two young children were enjoying a family trip to the beach to celebrate the start of summer. It was one of those simple but precious moments families cherish. They never imagined that only days later, their lives would be turned upside down.

 On the morning of July 8, Saray left for work as she did every day. She works for a cleaning company, but due to a GPS error, she was directed to the entrance of a restricted military area instead of the building where she was assigned to work. Military law enforcement officers detained her for approximately three hours. They told her they would take her back to a gas station outside the base, but instead, they transferred her to ICE custody.

 Saray says she was treated "like a criminal." She was not allowed to contact Luis until 1:00 a.m. the following morning. During those long hours, Luis had no idea where his wife was. He searched frantically, fearing that something terrible had happened to her.

 Today, Saray is being held at an immigration detention center in Louisiana while Luis is left to care for their two children on his own and keep their family afloat. The couple was married last fall and had been looking forward to celebrating their first wedding anniversary in just a few months. Instead, they are now living with uncertainty and fear as Saray faces deportation to El Salvador, despite having been granted protection under the Convention Against Torture (CAT).

 In addition to the emotional toll of this separation, the family is facing overwhelming financial hardship. Luis is working with an attorney to fight for Saray's case, but the legal expenses continue to grow. At the same time, he is solely responsible for paying rent, groceries, transportation, utilities, and all of the family's everyday expenses. He works as many hours as he can, but his schedule varies, making it difficult to keep up with their financial needs.

 Their 8-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter are doing their best to carry on with their daily routines. They love swimming at the community pool, caring for the pet turtle they rescued from the street, and playing with their upstairs neighbors. But nothing can replace the presence of their mom. Every day, they ask when she will be coming home.

 Today, Luis and his children need their community's support more than ever.  Hace apenas unos días, Luis, Saray y sus dos pequeños hijos disfrutaban juntos de un día en la playa para celebrar la llegada del verano. Era uno de esos momentos sencillos pero especiales que las familias atesoran. Nunca imaginaron que, pocos días después, sus vidas cambiarían por completo.

 La mañana del 8 de julio, Saray salió de casa rumbo a su trabajo, como lo hacía todos los días. Ella trabaja para una empresa de limpieza y, por un error del GPS, terminó en la entrada de una zona militar restringida en lugar del edificio donde debía presentarse a trabajar. Los agentes de seguridad de la base la retuvieron durante aproximadamente tres horas. Le aseguraron que la llevarían de regreso a una gasolinera fuera de la base, pero en lugar de hacerlo, la entregaron a ICE.

 Hoy, Saray permanece detenida en un centro de detención en Luisiana, mientras Luis enfrenta solo la difícil tarea de cuidar a sus dos hijos y mantener a flote a su familia. La pareja se casó el otoño pasado y esperaba celebrar con ilusión su primer aniversario de matrimonio dentro de unos meses. En cambio, ahora viven con el miedo y la incertidumbre, mientras Saray enfrenta la posibilidad de ser deportada a El Salvador, a pesar de contar con protección bajo la Convención contra la Tortura (CAT).

 Además del enorme impacto emocional que esta separación ha causado, la familia enfrenta una creciente carga económica. Luis está trabajando junto a un abogado para luchar por el caso de Saray, pero los honorarios legales continúan acumulándose. Al mismo tiempo, debe cubrir por sí solo la renta, la comida, el transporte, los servicios y todas las necesidades de sus hijos. Trabaja todo lo que puede, pero sus horas laborales varían y los ingresos no siempre son suficientes para cubrir todos los gastos.

 Sus hijos, de 8 y 6 años, intentan seguir con su rutina. Les encanta nadar en la piscina, cuidar de la tortuga que rescataron de la calle y jugar con los vecinos del piso de arriba. Sin embargo, nada llena el vacío que ha dejado la ausencia de su mamá. Cada día preguntan cuándo volverá a casa.
