Let’s Go Maggie! Beat Breast Cancer!

Maggie has a smile that fills a room with light, and wakes up the soul. Her smile is a reminder that life is fun, and people are kind. I remember the first time I met Maggie, we were in different parts of the same space and she smiled at me; I got the immediate sense that we were already friends. I have heard so many people speak highly of Maggie, and have witnessed the integrity of her friendships— she is loved by so many. I would attribute her massive and robust friend support base to her generosity with her time, and how she is always looking for and bringing out the best in others. Maggie loves deeply, and is wholeheartedly active in her expression of love for her friends and community.
Maggie has been managing and adjusting her life around a recent diagnosis of an aggressive and fast-growing, stage 2b breast cancer. The breast cancer is HER-2 positive and graded at a Grade 3 in the speed at which the cells are dividing.
On July 12, Maggie was shocked upon hearing the news that the lump that she discovered in her left breast in late April 2019 contained a mass measuring 5cm described as ‘Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma’ and it was recommended to her that she make an appointment with an oncologist as soon as possible.
Maggie subsequently made an appointment with Texas Oncology here in Austin, and also an appointment at MD Anderson in Houston, TX. Dr. Patt at Texas Oncology went through a thorough explanation of the findings and put in place a treatment plan, which, two weeks later was the same plan that MD Anderson also recommended.
On August 9th, Maggie started her 1st Chemotherapy treatment. She is currently slated to undergo a total of 6 Chemotherapy treatment cycles over the next 5 months. If she has success in shrinking the tumor, she will have a surgery to remove tissue from the affected tumor area. After surgery, Maggie will likely be scheduled for directed radiation to the tumor site. She will then receive adjuvant drug therapy for up to 1 year afterwards, to try and decrease the rate of reoccurrence. The journey to heal Maggie’s body has just begun and there is a long, challenging road ahead. Maggie has a way of putting people at ease, even when she is going through a tremendous storm. In her grace, she may make this storm look easy to manage, but it is a greatly difficult one and she needs us all to help lift her up.
***Your donation will go in particular to helping offset some of the medical bills associated with Maggie’s treatment protocol, post-surgery costs, and will help pay for the MRIs, CT scans, breast ultrasounds, bone density scans, biopsies, heart ultrasounds, and other imaging costs. It will also help cover the extra food necessary, supplies for chemotherapy infusions, 3 more month’s worth of chemo cold-capping, regular check-ups and co-pays for frequent doctor’s visits during chemotherapy, and for up to a year after chemotherapy treatment.
