Justice for Tenants

Donation protected
Update: The case is moving along, but we need to raise funds for the deposition. The landlord may back off when they see that a date is set and then the money can be used to start a mutual aid project for tenants. If you are able, please chip in a few dollars!

Some of the housing justice organizers from Central Jersey DSA attended a Cancel Rent Rally in Newark and met a tenant who was dealing with an especially egregious landlord. The tenant has lived in Newark all her life and has had to deal with many landlords and has taken a lot of steps to fight back. At her current home, the landlord is non-profit company that has many open code enforcement violations.

A local lawyer and activist can take on the case for the tenant if we can raise some funds. This is also an opportunity for tenants to talk to each other about what they've been experiencing and what other steps they want to take to fight back. New Jersey has an eviction moratorium until August 15, but landlords have been filing the paperwork so that they can evict thousands of people in every city when the moratorium ends.
