Let's get MXTW to Norway!

Donation protected
Help a group of courageous youth from the U.S. come together with a group of fierce youth from Norway to share their passions and creativity and create bold, vital new theater together!

Your donation will mean the world to these young people, quite literally, as your support will help them show the world what they have to say and how powerfully they can say it!

Donations to this campiagn will go directly towards travel expenses for Manhattan Experimental Theater Workshop students and directors to go to Oslo, Norway this summer to collaborate with the Norwegian Experimental Theater Workshop.

Who we are:

The Manhattan Arts Center’s Experimental Theater Workshop for High School Students (MXTW) is a unique summer arts program that offers area youth the opportunity to study and create their own experimental theater.

MXTW empowers youth in becoming thoughtful, creative, courageous, individuals by allowing young people's voices to be heard and respected on stage and within the creative process.

What we are attempting to do:
Last summer students from the Norwegian Experimental Theater Workshop (NExT) traveled to Manhattan to collaborate with MXTW.  This summer we hope to take a group of MXTW students to Oslo, Norway to complete the second half of this exchange.

Why Norway?
NExT was developed in collaboration with MXTW directors using the techniques developed in MXTW over its 29 year history. This makes Olso, Norway the only other place in the world where a workshop so similar to MXTW exists.

Students in both workshops have used the same techniques to study and create work, so they can come together to collaborate very quickly, despite being from two different cultures on two different continents.

What our students and audiences will get out of it:
Adding an international cultural exchange will help our students see things from different points of view and think about new ways to communicate with each other and audiences.

Our students and audiences will experience a direct example of working together with people from other cultures and the value of challenging their own assumptions and expectations in order to understand those others may bring from another culture.

Our goals for the exchange:
-Bring together students from our two countries to for artistic collaboration on new works.

-Share the works they have made in their respective workshops with each other.

-Promote cultural education and acceptance.
Make connections that may lead to lifelong friendships and ties between our two countries.

-Present work by both groups to audiences in Oslo in public performances.

-Broaden our understanding of the world and promote new questions and ideas regarding how we communicate and how we may work together for both participants and audiences.

How much we need to raise and our plan for doing so:
The total cost for nine students and three directors to travel to Oslo will be $24,000.

We plan to raise funds to cover half the cost of these expenses, our total fundraising goal is $12,000.

Students and directors will cover the other half of their expenses.

We have planned many fundraising events including a benefit performance and silent auction, a garage sale, fundraising drives with local restaurants, and a team to perform at local events.

We have received a grant from the U.S. Embassy to Norway.
