Ben is a 13 year old boy who has been diagnosed with Autism, as well as other medical diagnosis. An avid surfer, he has been surfing since he was 5, through the beautiful generosity of a local surf group in Kennebunk, ME, Special Surfers. This year, Ben has been given the opportunity to leave New England waters and head to Virginia Beach to surf with the group Surfers Healing.
This is where we need your help. It's been a few rough years for Ben. Last summer he was in a schooling program that wasn't an appropriate fit, leaving him with a phobia of school. He hasn't been to school for a year. His parents are working diligently with the Office of Civil Rights to get him the education and services he needs to thrive in his life. Meanwhile, because his mom is home with him full time, she is unable to work leaving nearly no money for recreational and social activities, which, in this Autism world is desperately needed. Ben and his mom live on $140 per week, doing the best they can. To go along with the theme that they have taught Ben, that life is meant to be ridden and conquered, they desperately want to give him this opportunity to teach him that no matter where he is in this world, there is water, and where there is water there is happiness. We come to you today to humbly ask for your help in getting Ben to Virginia Beach so that he may surf. The event itself is cost free, but it's the getting there and staying there that is completely financially out of the question at this point. We are hoping to raise enough money by August 16, 2017 to give Ben this life changing experience. Thank you and we appreciate your generosity.
