Let's get Abigail walking again!

Hi, my name is Netta, and I am finally able to fundraise for my beautiful niece Abigail. In the past two years, I have wanted to help out, and now I have finally been given the green light by Abigail's mother (my sister) to try and fundraise for her upcoming treatment.

Abigail was born as a normal healthy, and beautiful little girl. She was an active kid, attending ballet, street dance club, tap dance, gymnastics, and basically forever cartwheeling around everywhere.

Then one day during the first lockdown, she woke up and couldn't feel her legs. Her mother took Abigail to the nearest hospital, and our whole world turned upside down. She was diagnosed with Transverse myelitis, and there was no cure. There was no reason or cause for this and Abigail received a wheelchair! Having to process the lockdown and Abigail's diagnoses was literally like living out our worst nightmares. Imagine, your 11 year old becomes helpless, unable to walk!

To cut the story short, we had to make huge sacrifices, adjustments, lots of learning and sticking together as a family meanwhile treatments were being stopped up and down the country.

In the past two years, Abigail experienced help from physio therapy, hydrotherapy, accupuntcture and homeopathic treatments, as well as a cranial osthepath.
In this time she slowly started to improve and regain some control of her muscles. She has progressed from a wheel chair, onto a walking frame and currently she is learning to master walking with crutches.

In all this time she and her family has never asked for help, they are still patiently waiting for their motability car and their home to be addapted and modified by the council which can take up to 6 years. Abigail has attended all her physio sessions and her mother is always looking out for new treatments that maybe able to help her, all funded by their only income.

At present Abigail has the opportunity to attend 30 hours of intensive therapy with the world leading 'lokomat' robot, a medical device that provides highly repetitive and the most physiological gait training. However, this treatment is out of their financial reach.

It is so important for me to continue to support Abigails recovery and to raise awarenes of this debilitating illness - Transverse myelitis, as the more its talked about the more it will be funded for further future research.

When that time comes, I am determined for Abigail to walk down the isle, without any support, properly walking again!

All the funds raised will be used to support Abigails treatment this summer, in the state of the art rehab centre in Slovakia, where they specialise in treating clients with the world leading 'lokomat'.
