Let's Build Solid Ground for Mama Alphonsine

Donation protected
Did you know that every seventh person worldwide lives in slums? And if a woman with children loses her husband they can suddenly end up on the streets?

Now you can do something to change this.

Let us introduce you Mama Alphonsine, who is one of the women in Congo who could not enforce her property right after the sudden and tragic death of her husband.  She lives in extreme poverty and uncertainty with her two daughters and seven grandchildren in one of the slums in the capital of Congo. The authorities could force them to leave anytime, because they are unable to pay even the deposit.

„I try to keep my tears inside, but for nothing, my eyes are always full of them.” – The woman prays every day to stop the constant uncertainty that she lives in.

As Foundation for Africa got to know the story of Mama Alphonsine, they decided to build a new home in Congo for the woman and her family. This is the grandiose task that our volunteer mission in the middle of spring 2019 will try to achieve in the framework of our Build Solid Ground project. Motivated and active volunteers will support the goal by physical work and active campaigning.

To cover the expenses of buying the land and building the house, we need your help, too!

The land will be the property of Mama Alphonsine, and this way she will never have to be afraid of unfair and forced eviction again. The land costs 2650 EUR and the expected costs of the first part of the construction is 3350 EUR. Overall the expected costs will be 6000 EUR. Out of this, 3000 EUR is already covered by the donations of the volunteers who participate in the mission.

Our aim is to collect the remaining 3000 EUR until the end of April, so that the participants of the volunteer mission can have the opportunity to start to build the new home of Mama Alphonsine.

We hope that in May the woman, her daughters, and her grandchildren can move to their safe house that could mean the opportunity to leave poverty behind.

We are very grateful for any donation!

If women have property right and right to land ownership that can improve the wellbeing and living standards of the entire community. Research proves that if women own land, they have a higher chance to get a job, the family savings grow, the children have less chance to become undernourished or ill, and the number of family violence decreases.

By establishing stable living for Mama Alphonsine and her family, we give chance not only to her and her family to leave poverty behind, but we could give hope and positive example for the entire community.

Join our Build Solid Ground campaign  that aims to improve conditions to access land, and ensure safe and sustainable living for all. Follow the #BuildSG campaign on our Facebook page or check our YouTube channel.
