Let's Build A Community Garden!

We are starting a community garden! We received grant to purchase the land and now we just need to build it!

Home Ec, L3C
is a socially conscious business that seeks to serve as a leader in urban reimagination by helping to develop sustainable, cooperative agrihoods where food grows free and children learn through living. We start by building neighborhood gardens that function as a support hub for essential community services.

Home Ec Detroit will address the issues of blight and food insecurity by building community gardens on vacant lots in Detroit. These gardens will also serve as the base for the homeschool curriculum.

Home Ec Gardens promotes healthy home living, land reuse and recycling, and walkable neighborhoods by providing locally-grown organic produce and safe outdoor gathering spaces.

***********************************Mission & Goals***********************************

People will be motivated and inspired by the garden space, whether to help with ours, to start their own, or maybe just maybe to find a receptacle for their trash.

-to beautify and inspire the neighborhood through recycling and reuse;
-to increase access to fresh, locally-grown, organic foods;
-to improve the local ecosystem;
-to show people how to start and maintain their own gardens.

************************************Basic Budget**************************************

This fundraiser is to obtain the building materials that we need to start the garden.

Landscaping/Equipment Rental (demolition, excavation, or site preparation)
Garden structure tools (fence, trellis, etc)
Rain Barrel System
Garden usage tools (rakes, shovels, etc)
Dirt
Plants and Seeds
Admin (signs, taxes, fees, etc)

*************************************Community**************************************

We view every other community garden, urban farm, homeschool curriculum and local business as opportunities to partner and collaborate rather than to compete.

We are also seeking donations of gently used materials, time and talent. All volunteers are welcome. Whatever you're interested in, develop those skills and come grow with us!
