Lethal Nationalism: Genocide of the Greeks 1913-1923 is a full feature documentary about the tragic story of the genocide of over 3 million Asia Minor Christians at the hands of the Ottoman Empire and the Turkish Nationalist governments (Kemalists) during the years of World War I. Our focus is on the Greeks victims of the Genocide in their ancestral home, who were the first religious and ethnic group to be targeted followed by the extermination of the Armenians and Assyrians.
The first genocide of the 20th century has been kept silent for 100 years and must be told accurately and truthfully. Silence makes the victims seem invisible as if they had never existed and gives other genocidal perpetrators a lesson that no action was taken so Genocide can once again proceed without the fear of consequence.
The staff behind the documentary are seasoned award-winning professionals in top 5 broadcast US media and news markets. Our previous productions and accolades are well documented, and we deliver quality programming - our narrator is the legendary Bill Kurtis.
Use of funds: This documentary is currently in its fine cut stage in order to complete a final cut we will need additional funding, funds gathered will be used for post production, which will include:
-Additional script writing to tie in some new information as that archival material becomes available
-Additional interview and B Roll shoot, some additional footage is needed.
-New archival material since material from this period is scarce. We intend to gather as much relevant material as possible, which takes countless hours and research. Once Images and film/video is located, it must be enhanced and digitally converted.
-New sketch animations in areas where sketch animation has been created and used, especially in cases of survivors giving their eye witness testimony. These animations give life to their tragic stories where images do not exist.
-Final sound mix to create clean and quality sound. All interviews, sound effects and music shall also be enhanced and mixed down.
-Mastering all color correction and/or any adjustments that need enhancing - video or archival material.
-Licenses for worldwide rights for much of the media used in the documentary.
Nearly a million Greeks were killed, while millions more were uprooted from their ancestral homelands in Asia Minor (Turkey), Pontos, and Eastern Thrace as part of the Turks’ campaign of Genocide and Turkification of its Christian populations. The denial by the Turkish government continues today.
Legendary narrator and documentarian Bill Kurtis had this to say about the project: “This production is one of the most important projects that I’ve ever been associated with and it provides a sobering lesson as to why we should never forget the suffering that is caused by genocide.”
In November of 2019 in northern Syria at the headquarters of the Assyrian militia, spokesman Nabil Warde said, “It’s the second time we have faced an offensive: the first by Daesh, and this time by the Turks.”
48-year-old Assyrian Aisho Nissan stated, “There are Turkish threats to attack our villages and many are fleeing. The fate of the region remains uncertain, we are afraid for our children and our families.”
