My name is Charles Fisher, and I'm the founder of the Hip-Hop Summit Youth Council . We are the #1 not for profit, social service, Hip-Hop agency in the world. Our work is sponsored and/or supported by many including : "The People's Shark" Daymond John, from the ABC Hit TV Show Shark Tank and Power 105.1, an iHeart Media affiliate. For the last 19 years, we have launched many initiatives and has partnered with students, youth, residents, community groups, elected officials, government agencies, celebrities, the United Nations, NYCHA, Council of the Great City Schools, church and corporate leaders to ensure the support and success of each project.
Some of our most prominent projects include: Hip-Hop Against Gun and Gang Violence; Hip-Hop Against Sexual Abuse of Women; and Hip-Hop Against Heroin Addiction. As you can see, Hip Hop is the driving force, connecting factor and motivation behind our work. Through the Power and influence of music , we have united our community to address these issues with much success. We now face a much bigger challenge. That is why we launched the Hip-Hop Coronavirus Awareness Campaign (H-CAP).
As a nation we are now facing the worst crises in the history of this country, the Coronavirus Pandemic of 2020. With it's level of growth and disruption over the last few weeks, the only way we can stop the spread of this virus is by coming together as a community (not literally- can't forget social distancing) and educate our young citizens about the threat of COVID-19. In response we have started H-CAP, or better known as the Hip-Hop Coronavirus Awareness Project. In New York State 55% of the cases are citizens 18-49 years of age. A Brooklyn principal 36 years of age just passed away the other day. That was another wake up call for me. If we do not make our students and young adults aware of the dangers of the virus, many people of all age groups will not survive this year.
I live and our office is in Queens, New York. Elmhurst Hospital is 20 minutes from my office and the place is a nightmare. In a 24 hour period this week there were 13 deaths and a line around the corner for testing. Google the facts for yourself. New York State leads the country in cases, and Queens is now the epicenter. This is just one of many reasons why we are now taking matters into our own hands.
The U.S. is now number one worldwide in COVID-19 cases, outpacing China and Italy. As of Friday, March 27, New York State (NYS) has 44,870 cases with 527 deaths. New Jersey, the next leading state, has 8,825 cases with 108 deaths. California has 4,569 cases with 90 deaths. As you can see, NYS has five times as many as New Jersey -and ten times the number of California. Like it or not, we are ground zero and must step up to the plate and protect our own so we are in a better position to help other states when the wave hits their town.
Why are we sponsoring this fundraiser? Because our government is overwhelmed, late with their response and lacks the resources to truly fight this Global Pandemic. We can sit around and complain, or launch a "CALL TO ACTION" which will give private citizens the resources and inspiration to fight the virus and SAVE LIVES. After the health crisis is resolved, we will face an economic and educational crisis as well so we must get prepared now because it will be a long time before things are back to normal. "We The People" must dig in and do what we can to protect our children and seniors from the fallout we will experience throughout the year.
HOW WILL THE FUNDS BE USED FOR H-CAP?
1) AWARENESS CAMPAIGN AND RESEARCH: We will educate young people about the dangers of COVID-19, so they can make smart choices which may save their life, as well as prevent the spread of the virus. We have connections with doctors and medical personnel who will keep us updated on the latest FACTS which will then be circulated through our social media, radio, the internet, print and electronic media using the POWER & INFLUENCE OF CELEBRITIES to enlighten students and young citizens, as well as reinforce our message.
2) SCHOOLS AND ENRICHMENT CENTERS: Throughout our existence, we have been operating out of local schools and youth centers, which some now serve as Enrichment Centers serving meals and offering a host of services to students and the families of FIRST RESPONDERS. We want to help these centers throughout the crisis, so we need more volunteers and resources to meet the demand.
3) PROVIDE PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: We want to obtain Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that we will deliver to hospitals and needy families. This includes masks, of which we can acquire through our global connections through the United Nations with manufacturers. We also want to acquire cleaning supplies and gloves. To ensure safety and maintain social distancing protocol, we also want to be able to facilitate doorstep delivery of these items for those in our community that need it the most. If we can't get to a families, we will use the schools and centers as a drop-off site.
4) LOGISTICS AND OTHER NECESSITIES: To perform our task, there are some basic necessities we need such as supplies, laptops, tablets, transportation and phones so we can remain connected. As a registered 501 c3 nonprofit agency, we rely heavily on these donations to continue to serve our purpose of giving back to our community, especially during a period when we are suffering from a Pandemic of epic proportions.
I appreciate you taking the time to read this, and I want you to consider donating to support the worthwhile cause. Your donation will allow us to do our part, just as we did during Hurricane Sandy. This crisis is difficult, but we are strong and with your support we have the power to do what we can to help the government and our communities survive the Global Wrath of the CORONAVIRUS.
Thank you, be safe, watch the news and let's stay virus-free!
