Friends and Family,
Greetngs from NYC.  I hope that this message finds you all well and in good spirits.
Some of you already know that I am decided to go to court in 2017, so that I could fight to keep my son here in NYC with me.  I was approached by his mom and informed that she (as the custodial parent) had decided to relocate to Central Florida to care for her mother..and that she would be taking our son with her. After many discussions with her and advice from other parents (couples and single mothers that have sons), I ultimately requested that she not move my son to Central Florida for a variety of reasons...but mostly because he is at a stage of his life where he requires the most stability we can provide together, and he is also at an age where I need to continually and consistently be able able to guide him through his teenage years...as any father would want to do for their child.
Unfortunately, I was informed that because she was the custodial parent..she was well within her rights to relocate him...irrespective of my wishes. It was at that time that I regained legal counsel and decided to fight for my relationship with my son.  We entered in relocation/custody court in June 2017, and we are currently still in this process.
I can honestly say this is one, if not THE, most emotionally, mentally, physically, and financially exhaustive processes that I have gone through.  But I can honestly say as well...that all of you know how I feel about my son.  I vowed to be for him everything I could be...and to do the best to give him what I didn't have. I think that is the goal for all parents! We are living in precarious times for young men of color....and it is vital that my son has the protection and guidance and opportunities that will come from us staying together.
As most parents and individuals will attest, teenage years can be arduous (on parents and children), to say the least.  My son deserves all the opportunity afforded him here in NY amongst family and friends that he has known all of his life, that love him, support him and have continually sacrificed for his well being. I believe this can ensure my son's success.
Most of you have either seen Mitch in pictures, or met him personally. He is my world, and I am willing to go the distance and do whatever it takes for him.  This legal battle is tough, and my hopes is to ensure I can keep it going and see it through to the end...but the cost grows weekly...now to the point where I cannot keep up with that responsibility in conjunction with the responsibility of life. Any donation that you are able to give...will go to this fund, and no amount is too small. I believe in my heart that I am doing the right thing for my son...no matter how difficult.
The outcome will be decided soon, and I know that everything will work out for the best!
Thanks everyone!!
XOXO
