Marta's 40th Fundraiser to Help Rebuild A Home

Dear friends and family,

Growing up, for 11 years, I attended the Santa Ana High School, a nonprofit catholic school in Costa Rica fully managed by the Hermanas de la Caridad de Santa Ana.  This religious organization is composed of some of the most courageous, honest and selfless women I know.  These women own nothing.  They give everything up to serve their community and are often placed in remote areas so they can help the most under-served communities.

Sister Mercedes is currently stationed in Guatemala.  I got a message from her, someone I have known for about 30 years, telling me this family needs help.  Their home was burnt down.  They came home and found that every one of their possessions were burnt.  With five children and very little opportunities they will have to rebuild their life from scratch.  The Hermanas went to bring them food, but realized the magnitude of this family’s need.  So I want to spread the word and help them collect the money they need to rebuild their "ranchito", their home.

If you can donate, whatever you can donate, it will mean a lot of this family and to the Sisters.  Please trust in that every penny (I will cover bank transfer charges) of your donation will go to this family and if there is any money left over (being optimistic here) any other family that the sisters deem appropriate based on some major need.  If we are able to raise the money, I will be glad when I post pictures or video of this family's new home.

Queridos amigos y familiares,

Mientras crecía, durante 11 años, asistí al Colegio Santa Ana, una escuela católica sin fines de lucro en Costa Rica, administrada íntegramente por las Hermanas de la Caridad de Santa Ana.  Esta organización religiosa está compuesta por algunas de las mujeres más valientes, honestas y desinteresadas que conozco.  Estas mujeres no poseen nada.  Renuncian a todo para servir a su comunidad y, a menudo, son colocadas en áreas remotas para que puedan ayudar a las comunidades más desatendidas.

Actualmente la hermana Mercedes se encuentra en Guatemala.  Recibí un mensaje de ella, alguien a quien conozco desde hace unos 30 años, diciéndome que esta familia necesita ayuda. Se les quemó su rancho. Llegaron a casa y encontraron que todas sus posesiones fueron destruidas.  Con cinco hijos, y muy pocas oportunidades tendrán que empezar desde 0.  Las Hermanas fueron a llevarles comida, pero se dieron cuenta de la magnitud de la necesidad de esta familia. Entonces quiero correr la voz y ayudarlos a recolectar el dinero que necesitan para reconstruir su "ranchito", su hogar.

Si pudieran donar, lo que sea que puedan donar, significará mucho para esta familia y para las Hermanas. Confíen en que cada centavo (yo cubriré los gastos de transferencia bancaria) de su donación irá a esta familia y si queda algo de dinero (siendo optimista) cualquier otra familia que las Hermanas consideren apropiada basado en una necesidad importante.  Si podemos recaudar el dinero, me alegraré mucho publicar fotos o videos del nuevo hogar de esta familia.
