Let's help Cory

My brother. We’re all someone’s son, daughter, brother, sister, cousin, or loved one. While we all have our trials and tribulations growing up, I’d have to put my brother’s name in the hat as having an extremely difficult upbringing. Out of three, I’d have to say he had it the worst. It amazes me how far he’s come, and what a great man he has become in spite of such hardships. Anyone who knows Cory has seen how generous, supportive, loving, and kind he is. While he may not have told many people, Cory has had a lot going on in his heart, mind, and body, especially during the last year, struggling with the results of abuse. I believe all of those things combined just became too big a burden for his heart to bear, and Cory has been charged with assaulting a family member. Cory wouldn’t hurt anyone, emotionally or physically. Maybe you know someone who has struggled with emotional and mental issues. I firmly believe Cory has not been his usual self, recently and over the past year. Rather than be locked away for a good part of the rest of his life, his family is desperately trying to get Cory the help he needs. He can get better, he WILL get better, but a long prison sentence does not seem the best way for him to recover. Cory is handy and can build anything, but sadly lacked the emotional tools to help himself, but he certainly tried.  Our family’s wish is that he be diverted to a court ordered mental health residential facility with court mandated follow-up.  This will require good legal defense.  My Mom, a working single parent, does not have the ability to pay for this. We have retained an attorney that has the experience and the skills needed to get Cory started on a path to getting better, with the goal of being able to deal, in a healthy way, with all the scarring of an abusive upbringing, combined with recent emotional hurt. As his brother, managing his personal affairs and retaining his attorney, has wiped me out. We ask if you could help our Cory, with the expenses of retaining an attorney and other costs of helping him get through this difficult time. We have been sincerely moved by the outpour of support for Cory. People who know him know what a great human being he is.
