Let's get this dancer back on her feet

Let’s get this dancer back on her feet:

Who is Ava Fleming and why donate to her page?
Ava Fleming has faced adversity and through it all she has kept her head held high. Ava has an aggressive form of multiple sclerosis. The body she nurtured, loved, and made her very life with is now attacking her and has betrayed her. She has been deeply involved in the arts. During the height of her life’s calling, Ava taught and loved countless students of dance, as if they were own. She was once a devoted student and an impactful teacher, in the magical world of movement. She has performed internationally and been an instructor to women all over the world, both in the states and over-seas. Ava has remained grounded in love and she effortlessly has taught by experience and example.
Ava was in the peak of her career when she was diagnosed with a terrible neurological disease that effects thousands of people every year. Over 1 million people are living with MS in US right now. Little did she know but her life would change drastically. To add insult to injury one of her trusted employees stole most of her life savings, crippling her financially, as well. Ava has been a mentor and an inspiration for many; now it is time to show support for a woman who has had far reaching effect of influence and love.

The cause: Ava Fleming is in desperate in need of constant medical, care as her relapses continue with a vengeance and have lingered at the severe end of the spectrum. Yet, somehow her will to thrive and her dreams of reentering the world of dance and instructing students once again are not lost. However, Ava is having falls constantly, she cannot shower herself, she is she is in such deteriorated state from muscle loss, has lost her sight, constant, severe body and head tremors. Ava has lost control of her bodily functions and needs constant 24-hour care. Her home has had to be refitted with medical grade appliances and improvements. She sometimes spends weeks at a time confined to a hospital bed, while medical personnel pump blood from her veins like an oil well. Her bills are all in collections and she is now in extreme debt to pile onto the already costly disease. But there is hope.
Who am I and why do I care?
My name is Valerie Wagner. I am a friend of Ava Fleming. The day I met Ava her beloved Bryan brought to Las Vegas for us to meet. I had heard wonderful things about this dazzling and selfless person. She was a dancer and full of fire and life. Her reputation had preceded her, and I was excited to meet her. She was everything he said and more. Her warmth and zest for life reached out and made me feel excited to be in her presence. Her spirit was kind and contagious. We spent hours upon hours in a coffee shop laughing and joking. At the time I did not know it, but her MS was in remission… waiting.
The next time I saw Ava and Bryan my heart broke. The woman I had met just a few years before had become so frail and fragile. She came into the bar I was working in and her head and body trembled from the abusive results that MS wreaks on its victims. She had to walk with a cane. Her every move had become very deliberate and intentional. It was as though the things that once were so effortless, like sitting in a chair, had become great feats in her everyday life.
Why is this important to me? Bryan you are welcome to cut this portion out if it doesn’t work for you guys. Actually, you have my blessing in full to cut out anything that doesn’t work for you.
This is not the first time I have met this disease. Five years ago, it consumed the life of a woman who was like a second mother to me. Leanne Donnan was diagnosed around 38 years of age with multiple sclerosis. Leanne fell prey to this life changing illness and passed away on December 31, 2014. Her death rocked my very foundation. I had limited life experience. I did not know how to be there for her. My heart has hung heavy in my chest for years, filled with guilt that I did not do enough. I wish I had done more.
When Bryan said he was going to do a go fund me page for Ava a still small voice whispered to write it up for her. I am motivated by Mya Angelo’s words when we know better, we do better. I never again want to carry the feeling of I should have done more to help those I love. So, this is my amends and symbol of love to a woman who was like a mother to me and an effort to support a woman who has been like a mother to many others. Can you help? Will you please?

A little bit about MS – According to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society:
What Causes MS?
In multiple sclerosis, damage to the myelin in the central nervous system (CNS) — and to the nerve fibers themselves — interferes with the transmission of nerve signals between the brain and spinal cord and other parts of the body.
What happens and what are the symptoms?
Fatigue, Walking (Gait) Difficulties, Numbness or Tingling, Muscle spasms, weakness, vision loss and other problems, dizziness, bladder problems, pain, itching, emotional problems, cognitive changes, and depression. Less common problems include hearing loss, speech problems, swallowing difficulties, breathing problems, tremors, and seizures
Who does it affect?
Nearly 1 million are living with MS in the United States, according to a study funded by the National MS Society.
Age: Most people are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, although MS can occur in young children and older adults.
Geography: In general, MS is more common in areas farthest from the equator. However, prevalence rates may differ significantly among groups living in the same geographic area regardless of distance from the equator.
Gender: The recent prevalence study shows MS is three times more common in women than in men, suggesting that hormones may also play a significant role in determining susceptibility to MS.
Ethnic Background: Research has demonstrated that MS occurs in most ethnic groups, including African Americans, Asians and Hispanics/Latinos, but is most common amongst Caucasians of northern European ancestry. Susceptibility rates vary among these groups, with recent findings suggesting that African American women have a higher than previously reported risk of developing
Is it curable? No, a cure for MS has not been found but it is treatable and manageable.
How do we fix a disease without a cure? The primary goal is to enlist Ava in stem cell research and handle the myriad of complications that have come with MS.

A little bit about Ava’s support system:
Bryan Sullivan
The man behind the research and Ava’s primary caretaker. Bryan cares for Ava. He has been her main source of support. Bryan has filled vital player in trying to make Ava comfortable and to find peace. A few of his roles for Ava have been her nutritionist, care giver, friend, and ultimately the love of her life.
Brent Sullivan
Brent is Bryan’s little, big, brother and his right-hand man; when Bryan is at work trying to tackle these massive bills, Brent steps up and tends to Ava’s needs.
Why this cause means so much
Ava has spent her life being of service to others. She has worked tirelessly and in the blink of an eye she had everything she ever knew taken away. Sadly, this can happen to anyone. Multiple sclerosis destroyed everything she worked so hard to attain. Ava has demonstrated how to live with love. She sought out her dreams and chased them with passion and then she gave her gift to everyone she met. Ava has been a mentor, a friend, a lover, and fighter. She has faced adversity with the grace and strength. To give hope to this cause, that once felt hopeless, would be nothing short of a miracle.
