Who benefits:
daphne art centre is a non-profit Indigenous artist-run centre committed to serving the needs of emerging, mid-career, and established Indigenous visual artists through exhibitions and associated programming, workshops, residencies and curatorial initiatives. daphne will also be a gathering place for community members to come together for regularly scheduled events such as, art making and beading workshops, artist talks, film screenings and readings. We will also have feasts throughout the year to mark the changing of the seasons, Indigenous People’s Day, and for days of remembrance such as the Annual Women’s Memorial Walk.

daphne draws upon traditional protocols such as the Ohen:ton Karihwatehkwen (also known as the Thanksgiving Address) and the Anishinaabe Grandfather Teachings as cultural traditions that strengthen community through building good relations. We chose the name daphne to remember our Indigenous art grandmother, Daphne Odjig, one of the first to create a space for her art community in her Winnipeg print shop in 1973.

What your support will mean to daphne:
Your support will help daphne to meet our objective of creating a safe, welcoming exhibition and meeting space where strong, supportive relationships can be built. We are asking for contributions towards our start-up costs --those one-time-only items that make an empty room into a place with a purpose. We are grateful to you for reading this far, and can’t wait to greet you at our gallery!
