My name is Lada Volkova, I am 23 years old, and my goal is to earn a degree in chemical engineering and contribute to the development of sustainable and environmentally friendly technologies.
Previously, I studied on a full scholarship at Moscow State University, where I majored in plant-based raw material processing technology. I was admitted due to my high exam scores and passion for science. However, in 2022, I had to leave my studies due to the war started by Russia against Ukraine. I openly opposed the aggression, participated in anti-war protests, and never hid my position. After one of the protests, I was detained and subsequently faced political persecution and threats — both from law enforcement and the university administration.
To protect myself and my family, we had to flee to Kyrgyzstan. There, I began preparing for English-language entrance exams with the hope of continuing my education abroad. With the support of my cousin, who lives in Alabama with her family, I was able to come to the United States, successfully pass the required exams, and enroll in a local college.
My cousin’s family has been incredibly generous, covering my tuition and living expenses. However, due to recent changes in their financial situation, they can no longer support me to the same extent. As I am in the U.S. on a student visa, I am not allowed to work off campus and have no way to pay for my education on my own.
That is why I am reaching out for support. Any help, no matter how small, will bring me closer to completing my degree and achieving my dream of becoming a qualified chemical engineer dedicated to making a positive impact on the world.
I’m currently raising funds to cover my final semester tuition, so I can successfully complete my studies. Because I’m an international student without a U.S. Social Security Number or bank account, my aunt, Ekaterina Alekseeva, is kindly helping by temporarily receiving the funds on my behalf and transferring them directly to cover my educational expenses. All donations are strictly used to support my college education in the U.S.
I am deeply grateful for your attention to my story and for any support you are able to provide.
Sincerely,
Lada Volkova
