Let Her Speak for Animals

My name is Barbara Heidenreich, and I am known for my work helping animals in zoos, homes, and conservation projects. I may have been to your facility to teach your animals to enjoy stress-free medical care or helped you solve a challenging behavior problem. My resources may have shown you how to build a trusting relationship with your companion parrot or other pet I truly hope so.

It is now my turn to ask for your help. I have spoken out for animal welfare for many years, and it has been my privilege to be a part of several movements using innovation to improve the lives of animals. Unfortunately, my efforts to share information haven’t been easy. Despite these obstacles, I have continued to persevere to shed light on important evidence-based information to help improve animal welfare. The most recent obstacle to spreading my views, however, is one I cannot overcome on my own. Steve Martin of Natural Encounters. Inc has filed a defamation lawsuit against me. There are at least two topics the lawsuit involves: Animal Training without the Micromanagement of Weights and Diets and using Distance as a Reinforcer  (Removal of a Stimulus) for Addressing Fear Responses and Aggressive Behavior.

My legal team and I are fighting this lawsuit on all fronts. This will require significant resources. I have never been in a situation in which I have needed to appeal for help. And it breaks my heart to ask you amazing people for support, but I am truly out of options. If you believe that defeating this lawsuit so I can continue speaking up for animal welfare, if at some point you have learned something from me or the resources I have created, I hope you will be willing to help me save my livelihood so that I can continue to teach kind and gentle ways to help animals.
