Leslie Stevens' Heart surgery
If you have lived in Marfa for any amount of time it is very likely that you have met Leslie Stevens; at the very least you have been fed by her. Leslie has been a part of Marfa for her entire life. She has spent her time here raising her two children and being an active part of the community. She is a selfless servant and has never met a stranger. If you have ever worked with her you know that she does not see or treat you like a peer, but rather a family member. She is the last person to ask for anything and likely wouldn't condone this project because she wouldn't want to put anyone out or feel like she was anyone else's burden.
Though Leslie has battled with nerve issues for some time, this year her health took a turn she never expected. About 2 months ago Leslie went in to see the doctor about a small arm injury and it was discovered that she might have some heart issues. A few tests later doctors were led to believe that she may have had a small heart attack which initiated another series of tests. Things moved quickly from there. 2 weeks ago it was confirmed that she indeed had artery blockage and it was decided that she would need a few stints placed. An angiogram was ordered last week to confirm and the results showed two arteries that were 100% blocked and another that was over 70% blocked. This of course brought a bit more urgency to treatment and now Leslie is having a triple bypass on Monday morning in Odessa.
The purpose of this GoFundMe is to help with co-pays and the time Leslie will be out of work. Though her insurance covers 80%, there has been over $3,000 of copays for testing alone. This doesn't include her most recent test, the surgery itself, or the slew of follow-ups and medical expenses that will come through her recovery. We are asking for your help in reaching a goal of $5,000 to assist in covering some of these financial needs. This certainly won't cover it all, but every bit helps and the show of support would mean the world to her.
