In 2013, our wonderful mother, sister, friend, Leslie Moziejko, was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD) and Emphysema . Two years later in the fall of 2015, she was hospitalized with double pneumonia which, left undetected and untreated went septic in her bloodstream.
She was hospitalized at the Cleveland Clinic for over a month, where it was determined that she would need to undergo surgery to remove the bad part of her right lung, in which the lung tissue had been completely destroyed from the combination of COPD/Emphysema, and double pneumonia. When the doctors went in for surgery, they found that her lungs had fused to her chest wall and her lung oxygen capacity was less than 15%. Today, this number is less than 8%.
After four long years of testing, surgeries, and many trips to the Cleveland Clinic, Leslie has finally passed the necessary tests to receive a lung transplant! As you can guess, our family is excited, scared, and ready to take on the challenge. However, because of the long recovery time needed for a transplant, she will have to stay in Cleveland for at least 5-6 months to receive ongoing treatment and care. This alone requires financial support and resources to ensure the care and proximity to the hospital needed to recover
As you can imagine, a lung transplant requires a large amount of financial resources and stability that we want to provide for Leslie so that it is one less thing she has to worry about when recovering in the fight of her life. Anyone who meets our mother Leslie can attest to this: she is the strongest, most empathetic, generous, and selfless person we know. What our family wants to provide for our mother is the quality of life she so deserves and desires. Leslie loved visiting her daughters, going on walks, going to the gym, and being outside whenever she could be. Her condition has severely limited her ability to do these things. With your generous donation towards her lung transplant, we will be able to give our mother back something most invaluable to her: her freedom to move, her quality of life.
