Hi Friends, Leslie here with a quick update, but first and most importantly, I want to send a sincere thank you to every single person that has made a contribution to this fund. Your gift is never small; it is meaningful and has truly helped lighten a dark and scary time. The daily stress and worry I've experienced over the last several months is not an ideal healing environment! Thank you for sacrificing something for yourself or your family to help me in this time of need. I have prayed for you to be blessed beyond measure. (Because, Karma!)
In January we received heartbreaking news that my cancer has spread to other places, landing me in the terrifying "Stage 4" class. The 5-year survival rate for Stage 4 breast cancer is 22%. Here's the thing though, cancer... I'm not going anywhere. Not today and not tomorrow and not next year. I'm ready to move forward in a big fight, armed with knowledge, support, our God, and a genuine will to survive. I am doing this!
I will begin a new phase of treatments that are focused on my specific blood, genetics, and cancer cells. Most of these treatments are not covered by insurance, and several of them will take place in California over extended periods of time. We are entering a new world of expense... travel costs, Dr consultations, procedures, medications, infusions, blood work, scans, the list is a little absurd to be honest. Over the next couple of months the estimated out of pocket cost is $50K or more. Let me just tell you - if an "organized cancer was a dead cancer" then I would already be cured. I have managed, researched, color coded, consulted, cross referenced... even taught a few docs a thing or two they didn't know :) I am in the THICK of it every single day and it is HARD.
I am so grateful for anybody that is able to assist financially. It would be one less piece of this crappy puzzle for me to fight to fit together.
