Diabetic Alert Dog Fund

Donation protected
For those of you who know me, you know my second pregnancy with Tanner was rather "interesting" to say the least.  Unfortunately, it also led to becoming completely unaware of when I have dangerously low sugars or moderately high sugars.  It has put my sugar all types of off-kilter and lead to several scary episodes, so of which have involved the paramedics.  Recently, Anthony woke up in the middle of the night to me having seizures due to a drastic drop in my blood sugar and having no clue because I was asleep.  When the paramedics got here my sugar tested at 19 and I was lucky to still be alive.

We have discussed a lot of different options over the last couple years and different medical options as well with not a lot of help from insurance.  When we looked at getting a diabetic alert dog and discussed it after this recent episode I still debated over following through with the idea.  We discussed finding money in some fashion to pay the $15000 bill that would come in around June, but I couldn't wrap my head around it.  Anthony made me speak with the DAD people to discuss the advantages to having the dog in the house and with me when he travels, I travel, or I'm home alone with the kids over the summer.

I still debated the idea until last night when I couldn't fall asleep because I was too paranoid that I wouldn't wake up.  I guess the adrelanine from the past weekend had finally worn off and everything started sinking in.  I realized that the lady was right in that it is a valuable piece of mind to know that even if I fall asleep the dog will be there to alert me, or heaven forbid Anthony if my sugar changes.  I couldn't wrap my head around the cost until last night when I determined that as expensive as $15,000 is, it is worth knowing that I'll wake up the next day to see the kids.

We've already put the $2,500 deposit down on a labradoodle puppy we named Phoenix in the picture attached, so that she can arrive fully trained during the summer to get adjusted to our crazy life and household.

Please feel free to donate or share with others.  Any help that any of you provide will be greatly appreciated and loved.  It is a rather short time-frame for us to come up with the sum of money necessary, but regardless it will be figured out and worth it.  Any publicity for this cause is good publicity because the work that these facilities do to train these dogs to help recognize high and low sugars to save lives is wonderful and helpful.

Thanks again,
Rachael and Anthony
