Hey everyone! It’s ur boi Leo Aquino, and it’s time to YEET THESE TEETS.
On November 10, 2021, I will be getting “chest masculinization surgery” aka top surgery.
*to the tune of Usher’s “Nice & Slow”* I’ve been waiting for this for sOoooOOo LooOng!!! And I’m excited to share my journey with you.
ABOUT ME
My pronouns are they, he, siya (pronounced sha) and king.
I’m a freelance writer living in Los Angeles. I write about sexual wellness, relationships and culture. I also make poems about ancestry, migrant communities, gender expansiveness and personal myth-making. I’m a dedicated member of many communities, and I’ve been sober for 1.5 years and counting.
I know that “I was born in the wrong body” is a common narrative, but, to be honest with you, I’ve never really felt that way. Many of you are probably thinking… But Leo! We’ve seen your teets all over the internet! You used to be a body-positivity icon! But those beach thirst traps were everything!
And I still am a body-positivity icon! And there will be many more beach thirst traps to come!
I love my body, but I've always felt disconnected with my chest area. Even though I keep it cool, calm and body positive on social media, I realized a lot of sexual trauma lives there. Plus, it hurts like hell to carry 15lb sandbags on my shoulders all day!
Now that I have a top surgery date, I’ve never been happier. It feels like the clouds have parted and I get a second chance to live a whole, happy, and authentic life.
ABOUT THE SURGERY
Top surgery is a gender affirming process that will help me feel more at home in my body. I will be getting a bilateral mastectomy, which will leave me with two incisions.
Recovery takes anywhere from 3-12 weeks, though I’ve heard from the grapevine that people like me who have more body fat might take a longer time to recover.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Thankfully, I have access to health insurance that will cover most of the surgery costs. I do need extra support to build an aftercare savings fund to cover up to 2 months of living expenses after the surgery.
