Update: Leon has managed to get over to New South Wales and will fly out of Sydney in 2 weeks. He has signed up for a workaway which is where you can do work for someone in return for a bed and food. He is currently on s small holding helping a woman out with the day to day running.

He sent me this message ... 'Treating this workaway as karma yoga. A lot has gone wrong this trip so it feels right to do some volunteer work and help this person grow their garden. Also going to give all of my camping equipment away to homeless people too instead of binning or selling the stuff.'

Leon is currently in Western Australia and has had the misfortune of his car becoming a write off whilst in the middle of nowhere. He was given a lift to the nearest town 3 hours away where he is now trying to sort out getting the vehicle picked up and taken to the scrapyard.

Leon left for Australia in October and until recently lived with friends whilst working 3 jobs in order to save up for a road trip around Australia. He had spent all of his savings on a really nice Subaru car (ee photo) that was big enough to put a bed in the back so that he could save money on accommodation as he travelled. His plan is to travel around the south coast and then up to Brisbane whilst picking up the odd job on the way.

Leon is only 10 days into his trip and this has happened. Not only has he lost the car and with that all his savings that he intended to recoup at the end of the trip by selling it (to get home!), but he also is having to pay out (a huge amount) to get the car picked up and towed 3 hours to the town where he is and pay for it to be scrapped. He has some money from working to support himself temporarily but not enough to fully sort this situation out or to be able to carry on with his journey.

Despite the stressful situation he has found himself in (today is also his birthday) he has managed to settle in to the attitude that he can't change what has happened and to make the most of what is left. He says he will have to get jobs again to help support him save up again but will also need to buy another car to be able to get anywhere! Such an admirable positive attitude.

So I am hoping that with the good will of people we might be able to pull together and help him out. If you are able to help him in any way, no matter how much, it will be hugely appreciated.

For those of you who don't know Leon he is a lovely fun young man who works hard, makes friends easily, is reliable, is a problem solver and will always be there to help out in a situation. Leon loves adventure and the outdoors, loves animals, music and generally is a nice cheerful guy. He wouldn't ask for help as he would just get on and do what he needs to do which is why I am doing this for him.
