Help Leon get a leg

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Isabella and I am fundraising for my partner Leon Meal-Moss.

Leon is a 21 year old who is currently a second-year university student at the Health, Science University (HSU), previously known as the Anglo-European Chiropractic College (AECC), studying towards a four-year chiropractic degree. He’s incredibly driven, but right now, he’s facing a major challenge: Leon urgently needs a new carbon fibre foot attachment for his prosthetic leg.

His current prosthetic leg has lasted seven years—far beyond its expected two-year lifespan. Over time, it’s had many repairs and replacement parts, but now, the most crucial component, the carbon fiber foot, is cracking and ready to give out any day. Replacing this part is costly because it’s custom-made by a private company, and we need your help to cover the cost.

Leon’s disabilities include being a lower limb amputee, having an augmented bladder, kyphoscoliosis, and a fused lumbar spine. He has lived with these conditions for the majority of his life, however they have always and still do present significant challenges, but the failure of his prosthetic would severely affect his independence, mobility, and education.

Without a proper leg, daily activities and simple tasks become almost impossible. Attending university can be extremely difficult due to limited mobility and increased pain. The stairs and lack of accessibility in many buildings would and have been an hindrance to him getting to where he needs to be. Despite football being one of his favorite hobbies, he has to avoid playing due to the increased risk of his prosthetic leg giving way. The lack of activity and mobility would lead to a decline in both his physical and mental health overall.

I’m writing this on Leon’s behalf because, although he feels uncomfortable asking for financial help, the reality is we simply won’t be able to meet the goal in time without support. The fundraising goal we’ve set is actually below the full amount quoted to us—we aren’t asking for the entire cost to be covered, just help getting closer to the amount we need.

The NHS does provide prosthetics, but unfortunately, the ones available to Leon are of lower quality and don’t meet his specific needs due to his comorbidities. In the past, they’ve caused him severe back pain, stump pain, bruising, and friction burns, which forced him to spend days without his leg to heal. To avoid these issues and ensure his quality of life, Leon needs a high-quality prosthetic that fits comfortably and supports his other health conditions.

Every contribution will go directly toward funding a new carbon fibre foot for Leon’s prosthetic, replacing the one that is currently breaking down. This will not only restore his mobility but also his ability to live a fulfilling, independent life while continuing his studies. We are deeply grateful for any support you can offer—whether it’s through a donation or by sharing our story.

Thank you for reading and for your kindness :)
