Lenore is a sweet mom of 3 and her children are her world! She is a mental health counselor for Blue Ridge Behavioral Healthcare and is currently working daily with Highland Park Elementary School children who have behavioral/mental health challenges.
In November, Lenore learned that she has breast cancer through a routine mammogram. She recently had to undergo the burden of a mastectomy and is currently in recovery awaiting any further treatments. She found out a few weeks ago that due to her recent job change, she has lost her eligibility for short term disability or FMLA, which means she will have no income during the 4-6 week recovery. Now she has the burden, as a single parent with a mortgage, car payment, etc to cover those expenses with no income. Her employer is not required to pay for health insurance while on leave and she is not protected by FMLA. So in addition to losing that income, she may have to pay for health insurance in full come February and March, and will have mounting medical bills. She will have another surgery in 2-3 months to complete the breast reconstruction process and may be faced with this again (although that recovery will be much shorter), you can understand the fear of getting further behind and being unable to catch up.
