Lenny Kobilca ~Spinal Cord Injury

Donation protected
Lenny, an avid mountain biker, was testing out a ramp that he and his friend had built on July 30, 2019. What seemed like a simple maneuver, for him, ended up in one of the most devastating accidents. He veered off the ramp and was catapulted over the handle bars of his bike, landing on his head. He broke his neck and was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. He is coherent and able to respond to our questions by blinking, nodding, and mouthing out words. Although he is on a ventilator and cannot feel anything from his neck down. He has been in the ICU for the past couple days and undergone a spinal fusion of the C1 and C2 vertebrae. Our hope is for Lenny to be breathing on his own before a tracheotomy has to be performed. The doctors have said that Lenny will remain in the hospital for the next two weeks. Once he is able to leave the hospital, he will have to go to a full time rehabilitation center. Doctors say his treatment can take a full year. We know current insurance cannot possibly cover all the expenses that his lengthy recovery will entail. Let's show our support and encouragement for Lenny and his family. Any donation given will go towards his treatment and full recovery. As described to me by his friend, "He's just such a good Dude." I couldn't agree more! I know many of you, that know him, concur. We love you Lenny and cannot wait to have you back running around again!
