100 Lending Lockers

We are Alley-Oop Kids, an ESPY WINNING non-profit run by kids for kids to ignite joy through sports. We make sports accessible to under-resourced schools by installing Lending Lockers full of sports gear onsite! We've beat our original goal of 100 Lockers and are now shooting for 500! Currently Lending Lockers bring sports to over 70,00 kids!

Why do we focus on youth sports? Sports bring kids so much joy - a much needed break in the day, a way to connect with friends, the thrill of making a 3-pt shot! Sadly, participation is on the decline in a big way, in low-income families, largely due to the cost of equipment. That in and of itself is an issue but now compound that with a recent study that drew a direct positive correlation between playing sports and academic performance. Middle and high schoolers that played sports had higher grades – up to 9% higher! That’s the difference between passing a class and not passing a class and maybe even going to college or not. The evidence is clear - youth sports are critical and we must work to increase access and equity.
