UPDATE: I know the below is long about how she got here - so wanted to tell you right away what your contribution will be going towards. Lena has a long road ahead of her - but is her normal kick butt self and pushes herself everyday to be the best, strongest, smartest woman I know. She's officially an out patient and with that the costs kick in. We're raising money to help with medical aids, medicine, follow up doctors appointments, transport to/from out-patient rehab and food/utilities.

On Tuesday Nov. 28th she developed a cold and took a couple of sick days to rest up. Wednesday and Thursday her breathing started to get a little bit worse and Thursday she decided to go to the hospital to make sure everything was okay. Thursday evening she was admitted to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Illinois - as her cold changed to a to be determined bronchial issue - that exacerbated her heart. Back in 2015 she had an ablation done to correct a flutter in her heart, but she did not have AFIB at that time. Friday morning it was determined that she had AFIB and would be kept under observation in the hospital until they could perform an angiogram to see what exactly was happening with her heart. Since she had the bronchial infection + AFIB, she had a temperature and they held off on the angiogram until she was at a normal temp - which ended up being Tuesday. After performing it, they elected to do a cardio-aversion (shocking her heart back into regular rhythm) which worked without issue and she was held another evening for observation.

Wednesday we we're hoping to have her discharged, so I flew in to help with her after care and get her back on her feet at home. However her body had other plans, as that evening around 9:30 pm she had a stroke in her Right Mid Carotid Artery (due to a blood clot from her heart). After intubating her due to her swallowing spit - she was then airlifted to a different hospital (Advocate Lutheran General) in Park Ridge, Illinois. She was admitted into the ICU here early Thursday morning and was discharged to her current room in the Neurological/Stroke section at the same hospital. She's in full recovery mode and is doing quite well considering her situation.

Starting Thursday December 21st,  she will be undergoing physical, speech (for both speech and eating/drinking) and occupational therapy to get her fully back to her old self. She is completely cognizant of what's going on and what happened. Her mind is quite sharp. The big things we'll need to work on are getting her speech back to how is used to be (she can talk, but it's not at well as it used to be), regain control and movement of her left arm and mouth, and working on getting her standing/walking on her own.

Thought since I have many text threads, emails and other messages - this would be a great place to have a central location everyone can check.  You can check here during her recovery period around she progress. She has a great support group around her and with the help from Joyce, Judy and myself - I think she'll be back to her independent self soon. Monday will be a big day for her and we'll know a lot more of the plan/strategy to get her kicking better then. Since I know the power of prayer works - it would be great if you could keep her in your thoughts.  Love, Kristen
