The Duzine/Lenape PTA is thrilled to announce an exciting new project recently approved by the New Paltz Board of Education:
The Lenape Elementary School Outdoor Amphitheatre
A 500-seat performance, education, and gathering space for the entire New Paltz Central School District community
Lenape Elementary has a tradition of producing class plays as the centerpieces of study units, with more and more teachers participating. Through drama, students build confidence, concentration, cooperation skills, and knowledge of the world around them. Sometimes these plays are even student-written, and children can design sets, costumes, and props as well as programs and posters. Unfortunately, sharing indoor stage time with PE classes, lunch periods, and band practice has put limits on the program. The Lenape Amphitheatre will open up new possibilities for this much-loved part of our curriculum, while also serving as:
--An outdoor classroom
--A space for dance, music, puppetry, improvisation, and other types of performance
--A setting for the annual 5th Grade Moving Up ceremony
--A public venue available for use by local non-profit organizations
The Lenape Amphitheatre combines everything we associate with the spirit of New Paltz: education, the arts, the outdoors, and community!
And speaking of community...
This thrilling project will only happen through a widespread and multi-phase fundraising effort, which will be spearheaded by the Duzine/Lenape PTA. The estimated construction cost of the Lenape Amphitheatre is $125,000. Can we raise that? Yes! Will that take five years? Three years? Less...or much more? That's completely up to all of us. The more creative, committed, and consistent we are with our fundraising, the faster we can get this project underway...and the sooner our children, and the whole community, can benefit from this new addition to our local landscape.
This is a multi-phase fundraising effort, and this first phase starts with YOU! Please consider a donation -- no amount is too small -- to help us kick off this endeavor. Please also share with family, friends, neighbors, alumni of the New Paltz school district, and anyone else who might want to support the Lenape Amphitheatre vision.
