Lemonade Living Homestead Cabin Fund

   It will take just 100 people donating $180 each, or 10 donors at $1,800 to cover the cost of purchasing the Historic Lujan Cabin, for our Homestead Farm and Ranch School program. Lemonade Living does not have its own stable lot space. The organization operates as a guest at the stables. The purchase of the Lujan Cabin will give Lemonade its own space to offer services to the community. Please donate. Thank you!

Greetings from Lemonade Living!

   
   We do our best to make life sweet for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families in Los Alamos and Northern New Mexico. We host an annual, "Our Night to Remember" Dinner and Dance, started by Christina Stafford.
We are growing a Farm to Kitchen Jobs Training Program. And we have a long-term goal of a residential campus. Our kitchen is Rose Chocolatier truffle and pastry shop, where Living Skills students from Los Alamos High School and other adults with developmental disabilities are able to learn job skills. 



   The Pilot Program for our Farm School was held in 2018. We won a blue ribbon at the Los Alamos County Fair for our Candied Meyer Lemons! We also walked goats in the Rodeo Parade. And, we participated in the North Mesa Stables Stroll and the Luminaria Walk. It was a fun start to our Farm program!

   In 2019, we acquired the Historic Grant Homestead Cabin. We participated in our second Rodeo Parade and Stables Stroll. We Installed a goat enclosure and hosted a guest goat herd, while getting our start at learning goat care. We also plan to start a small churro sheep herd for our coming fiber arts program. We received our first donation of sheep's wool and our first spinning wheel. And, incredibly exciting, Marguerite and Andy McClay generously  donated the Rose Chocolatier chocolate shop, to be operated as our kitchen.

   We accomplished many things in 2020. We made it through our first year with Rose Chocolatier. It took determination, wonderful donors, loyal employees, great trainees and super LAHS volunteers. We started our own goat herd in May! The first baby goats were born in July and August. Campers from The Gifted Horse and volunteers from All Individuals First were our first cooperative partners to visit the new herd and babies. 

   This year we're ready to focus on growing the Farm. We are so excited and thankful to have been given the opportunity to purchase the historic Lujan Cabin for our programs. The cabin price is $18,000. After the purchase is complete in April, we will begin preservation and restoration activities. We will offer educational programs with our nonprofit partners, beginning in May. This will include programming with volunteer partners from Los Alamos National Laboratory. Programs will include classes about water, soil, air, crops and the relationship to homesteading on the Pajarito Plateau, both historically and today. The Farm will include the Organic Goat Dairy, the Churro Sheep and Fiber Arts program at the Grant Cabin, and Homestead Farm and Ranch School program at the Lujan Cabin. With help from members of the Los Alamos Historical Society, the program will include docent training for individuals with developmental disabilities. We will open the Lujan Cabin to visitors on Sheriff's Posse Cowboy Breakfast Sundays. Each component of the Farm offers therapeutic, livestock and educational opportunities for our community.

   We need help with all of our programming. Any amounts raised in excess of the urgent cabin fund will go to grow the entire Lemonade Living project, including Rose Chocolatier and our long-term goal of a residential campus. Our dream is big.  We need your help to make it come true.
