Leland Palomares Scholarship:
My husband Miguel and I established a scholarship in memory of our son, Leland.
In the spring of 2015, I was 5 months pregnant with our second child. We had just celebrated Miguel receiving his MBA graduation from Carnegie Mellon. In the middle of the night, we rushed to Magee-Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh. Our son was born on May 23rd but did not make it.
Leland would be 7 years old this year.
In memory of Leland, we established a scholarship to benefit our local community high school students. Recipients are selected from the Fresno area High Schools including Roosevelt, Sunnyside, McLane and Edison. Alumni recipients have attended colleges such Fresno State, UC Davis, University of Michigan, Massachusetts College and many other accredited colleges and universities.
Our goal is to raise funds to provide 7 scholarships for students enrolling to college this fall. Many of these young graduates faced many obstacles and are the first in their families to attend college. The funds will help cover costs for books, computers and other necessities in order to be successful.
