Go Fund Me has been set up to raise money for Leigh Heath. Her journey started in August of 2019. However, Leigh Anne was actually diagnosed with breast cancer in Oct 2019. It is a very rare form and cannot be detected on a mammogram. In December 2019 Leigh Anne had a double Mastectomy. She had 16 rounds of Chemo, four rounds was a type called the Red-Devil. Once Chemo was completed she had multiple rounds of radiation. She has been hospitalized multiple times with Cellulitis.
After Leigh Anne completed all treatment she had a follow-up PET Scan. She is blessed that the breast cancer is currently in remission but the PET Scan also noted a 20 CM tumor in her groin and left mid thigh. Yesterday she went to Vanderbilt for a MRI and an appointment with her surgeon. He is suspicious of cancer but until the tumor is removed he cannot confirm or deny. She is scheduled for surgery at Vanderbilt early February. The DNA report can take up to an additional three to four weeks post surgery. It will probably be March before she will know for sure if she has cancer in her thigh/groin. Leigh Anne went for her first Lymphedema clinic appointment yesterday afternoon. The Lymphedema is Chronic and she is in so much pain that it hurts to lift a coffee cup. She also has a frozen elbow and shoulder.
Leigh Anne was hoping once she had completed the Chemo and radiation that she could work. This recent change of events happened and work may have to be put on hold. I witnessed her in so much pain yesterday that I do not know if she will ever be able to work again.
Leigh Anne has been positive through the whole breast cancer journey. Yesterday she was positive and in a good mood. I do not know how she does it. She is one of the strongest people that I know. She doesn’t complain and keeps pushing. Vaughn would never ask for help and has no idea that I am doing this. Vaughn and all three of her grown kids are amazing. She has so much love and support. Drew and Sydney moved back home about a year ago to help their parents. I think this would help all of them.
Leigh Anne has taken care of so many people. She cared for both her parents, brother, and her brother in law before they passed. I hope those that know her and don’t know her will open up their hearts to help.
