Leia has FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis): a death sentence for cats. Vets are unable to anything. The prognosis is days and perhaps, with a bit of luck, weeks to live.
His stomach is full of fluid, he has a very high fever and doesn't eat nor drink anymore.
Yet, there's a medicine available! It hasn't been approved yet and is in the experimental phase, but a study shows that it is effective against the virus. Success rates are as high as 80-90%! That's incredibly high for something that is supposed to be 100% lethal.
This medicine can only be bought abroad for a very high price. Leia needs to be treated for 84 days with either daily pills or injections. The costs are a minimum of 2000 euros. Chances are it will be around 5000.
This poor cat deserves better. He has a lot to give. He has started treatment and is responding incredibly well so far! No more fever! He's playing again, and eating like a champ. But I have meds for 2 weeks now, and a lot more is needed to complete his treatment.

Maar toch, er is een medicijn! Een medicijn dat nog niet goed gekeurd is, maar wel al in verschillende kleine onderzoeken als effectief (80-90%) is bewezen! Dit medicijn is dus nog niet op de normale manier verkrijgbaar hier.
Wel kan het uit het buitenland gekocht worden. Voor een hoge prijs. Een behandelplan duurt 84 dagen en bestaat uit dagelijkse pillen en injecties. De kosten zijn op z'n positiefst 2000 euro. Een wat reëlere schatting gaat naar 5000.
Deze schat van een kat verdient beter. Hij heeft nog zoveel te geven. Ik ga zowieso beginnen met de behandeling. Met of zonder hulp. Maar alle hulp is uiteraard welkom.
