Legal Fund for Stamford Family

Some in the Stamford community are familiar with the following story of a wonderful family that has found itself caught up in the immigration controversy we've been hearing so much about. For the rest of you, we will share the story without names or other details. That is the family's wish (for obvious reasons). You have our word that every penny raised will be used as described below.
Our friend has been in the US for 20 years. During that time, she has sought legal citizenship, has worked and paid taxes, and has participated in our community in countless ways as a volunteer and caregiver. She has two amazing children (both US citizens that were born here). She is one of the most caring people you will ever meet, and we have been fortunate to call her a friend for many years.
As we all know, the environment for immigrants in this country is unforgiving. Our friend has been a law-abiding member of our community, and has done her best to raise and care for her children on her own. But now...she is being deported. The only question is how long it can be deferred. Those of us that care for the family are doing everything possible to support her petition with the immigration department to "stay" her deportation. Unfortunately, this process costs money - money she doesn't have.
We are raising funds to help cover legal costs. Any excess will be used to fund her travel "home". Lawyers have indicated that she will NOT be permitted to return to the US, even for visits. To help our friend and especially her children to deal with this outcome, we hope to have some money left to send the kids for a visit either over the holidays or next summer.
We are a strong community and I know we can help this family at a very difficult time. Regardless of your political views, you have to agree that helping the family maintain some level of normalcy is the humane thing to do.
Please, please, please give generously. The deportation date is set for the fall, so time is of the essence.
