Groundbreaking Legal Fight Against the Border Wall

Donation protected
My name is Melissa Cigarroa, and I ask that you stop the border wall from destroying the heritage and beauty of ancestral land in South Texas and from threatening the only source of drinking water for families and communities here.

The Border Wall will destroy several centuries-old buildings in San Ygnacio, TX, the heart of Zapata County's history. It will clear all vegetation alongside the river, where ecological treasures provide for some of the most diverse habitat and wildlife in North America. It will pollute the only source of drinking water for communities up and down the Rio Grande.

This historic ranch lies in the path of Trump's Border Wall.

THERE SHOULD BE NO CONSTITUTION-FREE ZONES IN AMERICA. Yet we who live on the border cannot fight Border Wall construction based on violations of the Clean Water Act, the Safe Drinking Water Act, the National Historic Preservation Act, the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act, nor dozens of other laws that protect the health and welfare of U.S. citizens. Instead, we are DENIED our 5th Amendment Right to Due Process, which would guarantee us equal protection under the law.

President Trump's acting Secretary of Homeland Security has waived all of these laws that protect families just because we live on the southern border.  We are Americans, and we demand access to these laws that every other citizen that lives anywhere else except here has access to. Anything less than being fully vested with our Constitutional protections is fundamentally Un-American.

For this reason, myself and Chris Rincon, Executive Director of the River Pierce Foundation, have joined with Zapata County to SUE the Trump Administration and its decision to destroy our land to build a wasteful, ineffective border wall in a groundbreaking civil rights lawsuit. (You can look up the case: https://www.courthousenews.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Border-Wall.pdf , 07/06/20)

Zapata County is a land of cattle ranching, hunting, fishing, farming, and just over 14,000 people live within its boundaries. People who reside here come from all over the United States -- many snowbirds resettle here during the mild winters of South Texas. San Ygnacio is 15 miles north of the county seat and home to the Treviño-Uribe Ranch, one of the last remaining vestiges of colonial history left in Zapata County.

The Nuestro Señora Del Refugio Catholic Church in San Ygnacio's historic district was built in 1875. It is an active place of worship today.

Our case is in Court right now. In order to save this history from the bulldozers and earth movers, plus a beautiful 3-acre birding sanctuary that sits right on the river next to the Ranch, we need your help! Fees to prosecute this case are rapidly approaching north of $125,000. Zapata County is small, and it's the "David" in this David and Goliath battle.

Funds collected here will pay for experts in Constitutional and Property Law and other legal fees only.

You can help us Restore Our Rights and Save Our Land! You can help us protect our families and future generations so that there are no Constitution-free zones in these United States along the southern border! You can stop the seizure of private and public lands! You can protect this unique ecological paradise! Together we can Stop the Wall!

Customs and Border Protection (aka, Border Patrol) is acting like the Presidential election never happened! They have executed the contracts to build 71 miles of destructive border wall along the Rio Grande in Zapata and Webb counties. This is costing taxpayers over $1 Billion, in one of the most ecologically-diverse areas of the United States, in the migration fly-zone between North and South America which hosts hundreds of bird species (and other native wildlife), and where one of the most endangered rivers in the world (according to the World Wildlife Fund) is located. And the start date is NOW.

Our court case could stop them cold. But we need your help.

We can offer a thank-you 3"x3" decal for every $50 or above donation, though all donations in ANY amount would be very much appreciated.

Ask what a Billion dollar$ could do for your community. It's Taxpayer dollar$! To see why a Border Wall will not work, and how all this public money could be better spent, visit www.noborderwallcoalition.com.

Thank you <3 !!!
