Legal Fees for ICE Protesters - Portland OR

Donation protected

June 2018, seven of us were arrested for standing in front of the Macadam ICE building in Portland and refusing to move aside.  We refused to let ICE agents enter the building and let them continue terrorizing immigrants in our community, so we were arrested.

After over a year of legal battles, we are each facing $100 fines, a $35 processing fee, and 10 hours of community service. For a few of us, paying $135 to the government is not a financial option. Our main goal of this fundraiser is to cover 100% of those few people's fines (about $400). Any excess funds over $400 will be split between the rest of us to cover part of our legal fees. Any excess fees over $800 will be donated to RAICES (The Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services)

The set goal of $800 will cover 100% of ALL of our fines.

One of the protesters arrested with us,  passed away before the courts reached their decision this year, thus the fundraising goal is set for the fines of six people instead of the original seven.

We miss our comrade dearly, think of him often, and will remember him always. May he rest in power.

We condemn ICE, and we condemn the US government for perpetrating these civil rights abuses. We believe no one is illegal on stolen land and that protesting the oppression of immigrants and refugees was and is a moral duty. If you are able, please consider donating to keep these wonderful community members out of debt and safe financial ruin.

Names have been omitted from this post for the safety of protesters.

Thank you,
