Legacy for Miki/Maruan

Miki was a giver. And he had a dream.
He wanted to be a pilot. It didn't matter what he was flying, he simply wanted to fly.
As a young man, he obtained his PPL in Ontario. He moved overseas to gain his flying hours at a more affordable rate with a beautiful view. Though, the realities of moving to a new country became prohibitive and he wasn’t able to afford to complete his license. That said, at the age of 38 he researched options and still carried hope. When he began chemo this year, he knew we had a different reality.
On October 7th, 2019 Miki lost is battle with metastatic thyroid cancer. His loss left a hole in our hearts bigger than anything can fill. He was the most genuine, strong-willed and fantabulous man; choosing him to be my husband was the best decision I have ever made.
It was just a few weeks ago, while in the hospital, we discussed hosting an event to create a legacy and surround him with the love of his friends and family to help fuel his fight. When we discussed this, a smile came across his face that brought such joy to my heart. Unfortunately, the cancer grew legs and a voice and sharply cut his timeline. Now, Miki has his own wings.
I would give anything to see him smile again, and, knowing Miki, what made him happiest was to bring a smile to others.
The money raised will go towards:
- giving another cancer patient or aspiring pilot an entrance award to help them achieve their pilot license. It would be given through a local school and donated in Miki’s name. Seeing another (or many) fulfil his dream to fly would be such a rewarding gift and a legacy he would be so proud of.
- funding a well in Africa to feed a village.
