<div><strong>Help us to fund the Lees and Springhead Whit Friday Band Contest. </strong>
</div>
<div>Every year the greatest free show on earth is held throughout Lees &amp; Saddleworth; the 11 villages who take part in the Whit Friday Brass Band Contests individually run and fund their own contest
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>As well as always needing VOLUNTEERS we also need FUNDING to run our contest in Lees and Springhead. So we hope that you will dig deep and give generously so we can continue to entertain our local Community with the Whit Friday Band Contest.

<div>Our History
</div>
<div>The Lees and Springhead Contest has been running in some form since the first contest which was held on 3rd June 1893. The current contest takes place in the centre of Lees village, with bands marching proudly up the High Street from Elliot Street to Thomas Street, during which deportment is judged. They then assemble on the bandstand outside Lees Library to play their piece.
</div>
<div>You can expect to hear a wide range of bands from top flight Brighouse &amp; Rastrick or Oldham Band (Lees) to scratch bands from universities. The Band Contest Committee do not organise food outlets but all the local shops, pubs and eateries stay open late to cater for visitors on the night.
