Lebanese University Students Support Fund

Leb20  Lebanese University Students Support Fund:

The future economic stability and welfare of Lebanon relies heavily on our commitment to our youth’s education and sustained development, and yet as we enter the year 2021, a shockingly high number of Lebanese students face acute financial hardships which will prevent them from continuing their education.

Every year, more than 150 students risk losing the opportunity to register for their study term due to financial struggles but this year, due to the economic crisis and the 80% devaluation of the Lebanese currency, a great number of students are expected to drop out of the Lebanese University, the only public university in the country, because their families can no longer afford to pay their tuition. As per the latest available data by CERD, The Lebanese University, despite being partly underfunded, accepts more than 40% of all enrolled university students in Lebanon.

Therefore, in response to students' dire need for immediate support, Leb20 in cooperation with the Lebanese Association for Scientific Research (LASeR) have launched a support fund campaign to help raise and distribute emergency micro grants for each student who has requested assistance via LASeR. The collected contributions will be used to cover the university enrolment fees of 1616 students. The average enrolment fee per student is 50 to 60 USD or 500.000 LBP.

We will be running the campaign until January 8 to make sure that all students who have applied for support receive the necessary aid to enrol in time ahead of the official deadline on January 12, 2021. The grant is extremely crucial for students seeking to enter the Lebanese University, the only educational institution they can afford at the moment, to secure their future.

In the course of our micro-grants selection, priority will be given to:
1. Students enrolling in a study department that require an entrance exam
2. Students with higher grades
3. Students enrolling in their third academic year
4. The student's final grade will also play role in the distribution of the grants

Your contribution, however small, counts !

Donate here and spread the word in your circle so that we can all support the Lebanese University students to realize their basic right to education, and keep the dream of a better Lebanon in the future alive.
